Position Overview:

The Privacy Officer plays a crucial role in ensuring that the organization, its personnel, and medical staff comprehend and uphold the highest standards of compliance with internal policies and external regulations regarding privacy and information security. This includes safeguarding patient information in accordance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health Act (HITECH), and other relevant privacy laws.

Key Responsibilities:

As the designated Privacy Officer, you will oversee the Privacy and Information Security Compliance Program, ensuring adherence to federal and state privacy laws. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Managing daily privacy operations across the organization, serving as a resource for privacy-related inquiries and strategic initiatives.
  • Conducting internal investigations in response to reported privacy and security concerns, collaborating with relevant departments as necessary.
  • Coordinating with regulatory bodies during reviews or investigations.
  • Performing risk assessments and monitoring activities related to privacy and security compliance.
  • Reviewing and developing policies and procedures to establish privacy standards in collaboration with various departments.
  • Maintaining a comprehensive training program on privacy for employees and medical staff.
  • Monitoring compliance with privacy policies and ensuring consistent application of sanctions for violations.
  • Staying informed about changes in laws and regulations that affect privacy policies.
  • Providing regular updates on privacy activities to the Chief Compliance Officer.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Health Administration, Public Health, or a related field, with a minimum of 7 years of experience in a healthcare leadership role, particularly in HIPAA/HITECH management.
  • Alternatively, a Master's Degree in a relevant field with at least 5 years of experience in a healthcare leadership role.
  • Preferred: Juris Doctor (JD) with relevant healthcare leadership experience.
  • Certification in Healthcare Compliance (CHC), Healthcare Privacy Compliance (CHPC), or Healthcare Privacy & Security (CHPS) is required upon hire.
