Overview

This role is situated within the Division of Depositor and Consumer Protection, contributing to the assessment of compliance evaluations, notable grievances, or inquiries pertaining to consumer rights, civil liberties, or community reinvestment statutes and regulations. The position also involves overseeing the compliance examination initiative for the designated area.

Key Responsibilities

At the full performance level, primary responsibilities encompass:
  • Engaging in compliance evaluations or inquiries regarding consumer grievances as directed by Regional management, including participation for training or in complex scenarios requiring specialized knowledge.
  • Collaborating with the Compliance Field Supervisor and Compliance Supervisory Examiner on formal and informal enforcement actions to rectify supervisory deficiencies identified in compliance evaluation reports.
  • Acting as a subject matter authority on compliance examination issues for field examination staff and for financial institutions under the supervision of the assigned Region.
  • Providing educational training for financial institutions and/or community organizations on compliance-related topics as needed.
  • Identifying institutions that may present supervisory concerns or risks and advising Regional management on corrective measures for non-compliance situations.
  • Representing Regional management in discussions with financial institution Boards of Directors regarding compliance challenges related to consumer protection, civil rights, or community reinvestment laws and regulations.
Qualifications

Conditions of Employment

Completion of Financial Disclosure may be required.

Must hold a commission as an examiner.

A Minimum Background Investigation (MBI) is mandatory.

Relocation to any duty location may be necessary to fulfill management requirements.

Experience

Relevant experience can be acquired in both private and public sectors. This includes paid and unpaid experiences, such as volunteer work through National Service programs and other organizations. Volunteer work is acknowledged for building essential competencies and skills that are directly applicable to paid employment.

To qualify for CG-13, candidates must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the CG/GS 12 grade level or higher in the Federal service, specifically in investigations and activities related to consumer protection, fair lending, and civil rights laws.

To qualify for CG-14, candidates must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the CG/GS 13 grade level or higher in the Federal service, focusing on complex examinations related to consumer protection and associated enforcement responsibilities.

There is no educational substitution for experience for this position.
