POSITION OVERVIEW


The Nursing Services Director, under the supervision of the Health Care Administrator, is responsible for leading and managing the care provided to all residents at Williamsburg Landing Health and Rehabilitation Center. This role ensures adherence to both state and federal regulations, as well as compliance with accreditation standards.

The Director plays a crucial role in setting departmental performance objectives and proposing policies to fulfill the organization's mission.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Develops and sustains nursing service goals, practice standards, policies, and procedures in collaboration with the Health Care Administrator and the facility's Medical Director.
2. Establishes operational processes and secures necessary resources, including equipment, supplies, and staffing, to guarantee high-quality care for residents.
3. Participates in the recruitment, interviewing, and assessment of nursing staff; supports Shift Supervisors and Nurse Educators in coordinating the onboarding process and staff training.
4. Maintains and communicates the position control for Health & Rehabilitation to ensure accurate job postings; updates shared documents in real-time.
5. Ensures timely and accurate processing of all worker's compensation claims before submission to Talent Management.
6. Collaborates with Shift Supervisors to identify and address areas for improvement through employee feedback and Stay Interviews.
7. Conducts daily rounds on resident floors to monitor nursing practices and resident satisfaction, reporting observations to the Health Care Administrator.
8. Assists in formulating the annual operating and capital budgets for the nursing department.
9. Monitors employee turnover rates and implements strategies to enhance staff retention.
10. Advocates for resident needs in interdisciplinary meetings, ensuring care plans are effectively maintained in collaboration with Therapy, Activities, Social Work, and medical professionals.
11. In partnership with the Health Care Administrator and Shift Supervisors, develops and implements a formal Quality Assurance Performance Improvement (QAPI) program.
12. Proposes and executes corrective action plans for any identified compliance issues, involving nursing staff in the development of these plans.
13. Leads weekly quality meetings to address concerns related to resident care metrics, ensuring that any issues raised are followed up with a formal QAPI action plan.
14. Conducts audits of medical records to identify procedural gaps and ensures corrective measures are taken; verifies that necessary documentation is present for skilled residents to facilitate payment for services.
15. Collaborates with the Health Care Administrator and Shift Supervisors, along with Security and local law enforcement, in investigations of elder abuse, neglect, and exploitation.
16. Participates in an on-call rotation to ensure 24-hour nursing administration coverage.
17. Fosters positive relationships with residents, visitors, and fellow employees, while monitoring resident feedback to enhance service quality.
18. Coordinates with Shift Supervisors to ensure all staff receive mandatory training and encourages ongoing professional development.
19. Holds regular meetings with the Medical Director and other healthcare providers to discuss clinical initiatives and areas for improvement.
20. Conducts monthly meetings with nursing staff to address opportunities for growth and updates on community events.
21. Oversees the completion of annual performance evaluations for nursing staff, ensuring timely reviews.
22. Holds nursing staff accountable for their responsibilities and issues Employee Disciplinary Notices (EDNs) when necessary.
23. Coordinates care from contracted providers, ensuring documentation from their visits is uploaded into the electronic medical record (EMR).
24. Inputs quality metrics into the monthly COR spreadsheet and ensures timely data submission by reporting managers; leads the COR call.
25. Reviews monthly CASPER quality reports with the MDS Coordinator to identify areas for improvement and develops QAPI action plans as needed.
26. Works with the MDS representative to ensure timely transmission of MDS assessments.
27. Participates in committees as required.
28. Performs additional duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS
Current Registered Nurse licensure in the Commonwealth of Virginia is required, along with a minimum of two years of supervisory experience in a long-term care setting.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Extensive knowledge of geriatric nursing standards, principles, and practices; thorough understanding of state and federal regulations governing nursing homes; familiarity with Medicare regulations; comprehensive knowledge of resident care standards, the psychosocial aspects of gerontology, and medical record management.
