Position Overview:
The Veterans Health Administration is seeking qualified candidates for the role of Clinical Laboratory Specialist. This position is essential for ensuring the integrity and accuracy of laboratory tests and results.

Job Summary:
The Clinical Laboratory Specialist is responsible for developing, executing, assessing, interpreting, and validating laboratory procedures and outcomes. This role involves maintaining high standards of quality control and ensuring compliance with safety regulations.

Key Responsibilities:
The responsibilities of the Clinical Laboratory Specialist include, but are not limited to:

  • Overseeing daily operations and organization of the laboratory workspace, including the initiation and completion of testing and maintenance of testing records.
  • Conducting quality control measures and maintaining comprehensive records of quality assurance.
  • Performing a wide range of laboratory procedures, including complex testing, and troubleshooting any issues that arise.
  • Evaluating and resolving problems related to specimen collection and processing.
  • Maintaining laboratory equipment, including calibration, minor repairs, and preventative maintenance.
  • Documenting laboratory results accurately in the laboratory information system and ensuring data integrity.
  • Adhering to all safety and cleanliness protocols in accordance with OSHA and HIPAA guidelines.

Work Schedule:
This is a full-time position with 8-hour shifts, which may include rotating weekends and holidays based on departmental needs.

Qualifications:
Applicants must be U.S. citizens and meet specific educational and certification requirements. Candidates should possess a bachelor's degree in medical laboratory science or a related field, along with appropriate certification as a Medical Technologist.

Physical Requirements:
The role requires the ability to perform various physical tasks, including lifting and carrying laboratory materials, standing for extended periods, and performing tasks that require manual dexterity.
