General Overview:

Under general supervision, conducts routine standardized clinical diagnostic assessments in a medical laboratory setting.

Key Responsibilities:

The responsibilities outlined in this section are fundamental to the role. Failure to perform these duties with or without reasonable accommodation may lead to disqualification from the position.
  • Conducts hematologic, chemical, microscopic, morphologic, immunologic, and microbiologic patient assessments promptly and reliably, adhering to established hospital and departmental protocols.
  • May involve work in various laboratory sections: Core Lab, Blood Bank, Microbiology, Virology, Molecular, Genetics, or Biochemical Genetics.
  • Implements new methodologies and develops procedural guidelines.
  • Engages in performance enhancement initiatives and assists the hospital in achieving accreditation standards set by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) and the College of American Pathologists (CAP).
  • Special Requirement: Certain positions may necessitate approval in accordance with Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) regulations for unescorted access to radioactive materials.
Additional Responsibilities:
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor of Science Degree OR Graduate of MLT program

Experience: No prior experience required

License(s)/Certification(s)/Registration(s) Required: Certification based on assignment; nationally recognized certification preferred

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Understanding of laboratory principles and techniques.
  • Familiarity with chemistry, hematology, microbiology, transfusion medicine (blood bank), and related laboratory specialties.
  • Ability to perform clinical laboratory tasks independently.
  • Capability to organize, analyze, and evaluate tests concerning laboratory controls and methods and in replicating analysis.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, along with presentation and facilitation abilities.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office applications.
