POSITION SUMMARY: We are in search of a motivated and seasoned Senior Structural Engineer to join our team. This role involves leading and managing engineering projects, supervising design processes, offering technical expertise, generating plans, reviewing and endorsing structural reports, and ensuring the successful execution of projects within defined scope, budget, and timeline.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Core Functions for All Technical Roles
  • Facilitate and oversee internal project meetings, ensuring effective communication and collaboration among team members and stakeholders.
  • Monitor schedules and guarantee compliance with project plans and timelines, both internally and with external partners, to achieve project goals efficiently.
  • Conduct and coordinate on-site evaluations, documenting existing conditions, performing field tests, and creating sketches. Monitor work progress to ensure adherence to project specifications.
  • Ensure accurate field measurements and perform calculations throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Draft written communications with clients and contractors, maintaining clear and professional interactions throughout the project duration.
  • Review investigation reports and bid documents, including drawings and technical specifications, to ensure accurate interpretation and implementation.
  • Communicate project progress and proactively address any issues or discrepancies that arise, escalating unresolved matters to supervisors as necessary.
  • Maintain organized records, files, drawings, and other essential project data, ensuring they are appropriately filed within the company's systems for easy access and future reference.
  • Gather post-project feedback to identify areas for improvement and communicate this feedback to supervisors.
  • Stay informed about job knowledge and industry trends through participation in educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, and engaging in professional societies and networks.
  • Participate in networking activities and represent the company at events, seminars, and continuing education presentations. Actively seek marketing opportunities to enhance the organization's visibility in the industry.
  • Perform additional duties related to the position as assigned by the firm, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability to contribute to the overall success of the team.
Technical Requirements
  • Provide technical guidance and expertise to the team throughout the design and construction phases, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations, codes, and standards.
  • Conduct design, calculations, and CAD drawings.
  • Review technical data prepared by internal engineers/architects and third-party entities.
  • Conduct forensic inspections, applying technical expertise to assess project conditions and identify potential issues.
  • Serve as an expert witness in legal matters, including depositions and mediations.
  • Conduct various tests, including material testing and structural analysis, supervising testing activities to ensure accurate data collection.
  • Generate comprehensive field reports detailing observations, measurements, and findings from site visits and inspections.
  • Develop expert reports that provide in-depth analysis, conclusions, and recommendations based on project requirements and findings.
  • Assist in the development and review of technical specifications, drawings, and construction documents.
Client Relations
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including clients, contractors, and consultants, to coordinate project activities and resolve technical issues.
  • Work with legal teams and represent the firm in mediations, providing expert opinions and strategic guidance.
  • Engage in meetings with clients and stakeholders to understand project objectives, present design proposals, and provide technical recommendations.
  • Build strong client relationships, ensuring effective communication and understanding of project requirements and objectives.
Internal Collaboration
  • Work closely with the team to understand the scope of work, budget, goals, deliverables, and timeline to ensure project success.
  • Mentor and support junior team members, fostering their professional growth and development.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education
  • Bachelor's degree in Structural Engineering from an accredited institution.
Experience
  • Minimum of five years of experience in the architectural and engineering consulting industry.
Licenses & Certifications
  • Professional Engineer license is required, with compliance to licensing requirements and applicable regulations.
  • OSHA 10 Certification is preferred.
  • A valid United States Driver's License is required for travel to client sites.
Skills
  • Proficient in written and verbal communication.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in project documentation.
  • Excellent project management and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Knowledge of building codes, regulations, and standards.
  • Professional and courteous interaction with clients and colleagues.
  • Flexibility to work overtime as needed.
  • Familiarity with drafting software (AutoCAD, BricsCAD, Revit) for relevant positions.
  • Strong teamwork and collaboration skills, fostering a positive work environment.
  • Ability to work in the field and travel as required.
  • Effective time management skills while adhering to project budgets.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Lifting
  • Must be able to lift and carry items weighing up to 40 lbs.

  • Safe operation and use of ladders, scaffolds, and other access equipment as required.
  • Ability to work safely at heights.
Outdoor Environment
  • Willingness to work outdoors for extended periods, potentially exceeding three hours.
  • Ability to work in diverse weather conditions, including extreme temperatures and high humidity.
Mobility
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods, possibly on uneven or challenging terrains.

  • Ability to adjust lunch hours based on project-specific demands.
