POSITION SUMMARY: We are in search of a dynamic and seasoned Senior Structural Engineer to join our team. This role involves leading and managing engineering projects, overseeing design processes, providing technical insights, producing plans, reviewing and endorsing structural reports, and ensuring the successful execution of projects within defined scope, budget, and timelines.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Essential Functions for All Technical Roles
  • Facilitate and oversee internal project meetings, ensuring effective communication and collaboration among team members and stakeholders.
  • Monitor schedules and ensure compliance with project plans and timelines, both internally and with external partners, to achieve project goals efficiently.
  • Conduct and coordinate on-site evaluations, documenting existing conditions, performing field tests, capturing photographs, and creating sketches. Monitor work progress to ensure adherence to project specifications.
  • Ensure accurate field measurements and perform calculations throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Draft written communications with clients and contractors, maintaining professional and clear dialogue throughout the project duration.
  • Review investigation reports and bid documents, including drawings and technical specifications, to ensure precise interpretation and implementation.
  • Communicate project status and proactively address any issues or discrepancies that arise, escalating unresolved matters to supervisors promptly.
  • Maintain organized records, files, drawings, and other essential project data, ensuring they are appropriately filed within the company's systems for easy access and future reference.
  • Gather post-project feedback to identify areas for improvement and communicate this feedback to supervisors.
  • Stay updated with industry knowledge and trends through participation in educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, and engaging in professional networks.
  • Participate in networking activities and represent the company at industry events, seminars, and continuing education presentations.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability to contribute to the overall success of the team.
Technical Expertise
  • Provide technical guidance and expertise throughout the design and construction phases, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations, codes, and standards.
  • Conduct design calculations and produce CAD drawings.
  • Perform peer reviews of technical data prepared by internal engineers and third-party entities.
  • Conduct forensic inspections, applying technical expertise to assess project conditions and identify potential issues.
  • Serve as an expert witness in legal matters, including depositions and mediations.
  • Conduct various testing, including material testing and structural analysis, supervising testing activities to ensure accurate data collection.
  • Generate comprehensive field reports detailing observations and findings from site visits.
  • Prepare expert reports that provide in-depth analysis and recommendations based on project requirements.
  • Oversee the development and review of technical specifications, drawings, and construction documents.
Client Engagement
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including clients, contractors, and consultants, to coordinate project activities and resolve technical issues.
  • Work with legal teams and represent the firm in mediations, providing expert opinions and strategic guidance.
  • Participate in client meetings to understand project objectives, present design proposals, and provide technical recommendations.
  • Build strong client relationships, ensuring effective communication and understanding of project requirements.
Team Collaboration
  • Work closely with the team to understand project scope, budget, goals, deliverables, and timelines to ensure success.
  • Mentor and support junior team members, fostering their professional growth.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Education
  • Bachelor's degree in Structural Engineering from an accredited institution.
Experience
  • Minimum of five years of experience in the architectural and engineering consulting field.
Licenses & Certifications
  • Professional Engineer license is required, with compliance to licensing requirements and applicable regulations.
  • OSHA 10 Certification is preferred.
  • A valid United States Driver's License is required for travel to client sites.
Skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in project documentation.
  • Excellent project management and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Knowledge of building codes, regulations, and standards.
  • Professional and courteous interaction with clients and colleagues.
  • Flexibility to work overtime as needed.
  • Familiarity with drafting software such as AutoCAD, BricsCAD, or Revit.
  • Strong teamwork and collaboration skills, fostering a positive work environment.
  • Ability to work in the field and travel as required.
  • Effective time management skills while adhering to project budgets.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Lifting
  • Must be able to lift and carry items weighing up to 40 lbs.
Height and Access Equipment
  • Safe operation of ladders, scaffolds, and other access equipment as required.
  • Ability to work safely at heights.
Outdoor Environment
  • Ability to work outdoors for extended periods, possibly exceeding three hours.
  • Capability to work in diverse weather conditions, including temperatures above 85°F or below 40°F, high humidity, and adverse weather conditions.
Mobility
  • Extended periods of standing and walking, possibly on uneven terrain.
Flexibility in Scheduling
  • Ability to adjust lunch hours based on project demands.
