Key Responsibilities

In this role, the successful applicant will collaborate with team members and be accountable for the coordination and execution of various project components. Responsibilities include delivering project work, producing high-quality outputs, adhering to project timelines, and mentoring junior personnel. The candidate will join a diverse team engaged in active projects across multiple states. This position offers an excellent opportunity for increased project and design responsibilities for a self-driven and detail-oriented professional.

  • Provide planning, design, and oversight services for clients in the transportation and civil engineering sectors, including roadway drainage, culvert and bridge hydraulics, stormwater management, erosion and sediment control, and green infrastructure.
  • Conduct hydrologic and hydraulic computations, generate reports, and perform modeling for drainage improvements, watershed evaluations, and floodplain assessments.
  • Design and prepare construction documents for various water resource initiatives, including drainage, stormwater management, and erosion control.
  • Proficient use of Microsoft Office, MicroStation, Geopak Drainage, and HEC-RAS is essential.
  • Coordinate the design development of projects and provide technical guidance to junior staff.
  • Assist in the development of multiple projects and deliverables, including plans, specifications, technical reports, and cost estimates, ensuring adherence to schedules and budgets.
  • Perform conventional engineering tasks, including calculations, interpretation of engineering drawings, and proposal preparation assistance.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills are required, along with a solid understanding of water resources and civil engineering principles.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Experience in stormwater management, design of stormwater control measures, hydrologic and hydraulic analysis, drainage design, and watershed modeling.
  • Familiarity with hydrologic & hydraulic modeling software such as HEC-RAS, HY-8, TR-20, and SWMM.
  • Experience with Microstation and Geopak Drainage.
  • Pre-employment drug screening is a condition of employment. Background and motor vehicle checks may be required based on the position.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering; advanced degrees are preferred.
  • 6 - 10 years of professional experience; PE license is required.
  • The ideal candidate will have experience in planning, organizing, estimating, scheduling, and monitoring projects involving engineering systems.
  • Ability to develop positive working relationships to effectively coordinate work activities.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Pre-employment drug screening is a condition of employment. Background and motor vehicle checks may be required based on the position.
Performance Expectations
  • Conduct timely annual Employee Performance Appraisals for assigned staff.
  • Train backup personnel to support your role in your absence.
  • Adhere to all KCI policies and procedures.
  • Ensure projects meet ISO compliance requirements.
  • Manage the work routine of all assigned staff and delegate job activities as necessary.
  • Complete additional duties as assigned.
  • Achieve or exceed budgeted individual utilization targets.
  • Participate in regular meetings with project teams on all assignments.
  • Document and report task performance results.
  • Complete all tasks on time and within budget while fully meeting project scope.
  • Consult and coordinate with other practices and sub-consultants as required.
  • Operate within specified budget parameters.
  • Prepare interpractice agreements and/or outside requests as necessary.
  • Provide technical oversight for projects and staff.
  • Serve as task manager on select projects.
  • Conduct site visits and gather necessary data.
  • Prepare design calculations, drawings, specifications, and cost estimates for review.
  • Prepare preliminary concept designs for approval.
  • Review and interpret technical documents as needed.
  • Review and approve shop drawings.
  • Complete the Annual Individual Training Program.
