Job Summary

The University of Redlands is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Public Safety Officer to join our team. As a Public Safety Officer, you will be responsible for providing security and protection to the campus community, ensuring a safe and secure environment for students, faculty, and staff.

Key Responsibilities
  • Patrol the campus on foot, by bicycle, or vehicle to maintain general security and respond to emergencies
  • Investigate and document incidents, including crimes, accidents, and safety hazards
  • Provide emergency first aid and assist in the transportation of ill or injured persons
  • Direct traffic and provide crowd control at large gatherings and events
  • Escort employees, students, and visitors, and provide assistance with access to campus buildings
  • Participate in crime prevention programs and conduct safety training for students
  • Conduct investigations of reported crimes, traffic accidents, and other incidents occurring on university property
  • Identify suspicious situations and work with outside agency contacts to prevent and respond to incidents
  • Prepare verbal and written administrative reports related to incidents and arrests
  • Warn violators of rule infractions and apprehend or expel persons engaging in suspicious or criminal acts
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • One year of experience in law enforcement or a closely related field required
  • Valid California Class C driver's license with a good driving record required
  • Physical examination demonstrating physical ability to perform the essential functions of the job required
  • Psychological evaluation and comprehensive background check required
Preferred Qualifications
  • Basic POST Certificate or higher required
  • PC 832 course required
  • CPR, AED, and First Aid Certificates required
Working Conditions

The Public Safety Officer will work in a field and standard office setting, with duties performed in an office environment while sitting at a desk or computer workstation or in meetings. The position may require after-hours and emergency response.

Physical Demands

The Public Safety Officer will regularly work outdoors, walk for long periods of time, climb hills and stairs, travel to various locations, use hands and fingers to operate an electronic keyboard or other office machines, reach with hands and arms, frequently bend, stoop, kneel, reach to perform work, climb stairs, speak clearly and distinctly to answer telephones and to provide information, see to read fine print and operate computer, hear and understand voices over telephone and in person, and lift, carry and/or move objects weighing up to 100 pounds.
