POSITION: Billing Specialist

At Arrowhead Orthopaedics, we are dedicated to delivering exceptional Orthopaedic care. Our commitment to this philosophy necessitates that all team members are attentive and responsive to the needs and preferences of our patients. To ensure we attract and retain high-quality staff, we have established the following job description for this role.

The selected candidate will be expected to work a full-time schedule of forty hours per week, with flexibility in their hours to ensure efficient service delivery. However, the employee will not work more than five days per week.

Proficiency in computer systems and the ability to quickly learn the necessary software programs used in our practice are essential. The specifics of hours, compensation, and benefits will be determined as agreed upon.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Under the guidance of the Business Office Manager, the Billing Specialist will oversee all tasks required for the effective functioning of the Billing & Collections Department at Arrowhead Orthopaedics.

KEY DUTIES:
Work will primarily take place within the Billing & Collections Department at Arrowhead Orthopaedics. The role involves a high volume of work, requiring a commitment to maintaining a high standard of quality. The Billing Specialist will regularly handle confidential patient and physician information, necessitating the utmost discretion, professionalism, and confidentiality. The Billing Specialist is responsible for the following tasks:

  1. Inputting charges and performing various data entry tasks.
  2. Reviewing superbills for accuracy and generating changes for provider services, with a minimum requirement of 120 charges processed per 8-hour day.
  3. Maintaining logs for any missing or incorrect services, Durable Medical Equipment, Pharmaceuticals, and Worker's Compensation reports.
  4. Tracking logs utilized in the clinic.
  5. Investigating all necessary information to complete the billing process, including obtaining charge details from physicians.
  6. Coding information related to procedures performed and diagnoses on charges.
  7. Entering charge information into the online entry system and generating billing statements.
  8. Assisting with coding and resolving errors.
  9. Performing additional responsibilities as assigned by the Business Office Manager.
WORKING RELATIONSHIPS:
The Billing Specialist will maintain the following professional relationships:
  1. Directly reporting to the Business Office Manager, the employee will communicate any progress, reports, requests, concerns, or expectations related to their responsibilities. This communication may be verbal or written as deemed necessary.
  2. Interacting with other office and clinical staff in a collegial and professional manner, contributing to a safe and pleasant work environment at Arrowhead Orthopaedics.
  3. Engaging with the public in a manner that reflects the office's commitment to quality care and customer satisfaction. All communications should be professional, and any unresolved issues should be reported to the Business Office Manager.

SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
  1. Typing speed of at least 40 words per minute.
  2. Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
  3. Proficiency in operating computers and scanners, as well as familiarity with software programs including Outlook.
  4. Professional communication skills and telephone etiquette are essential.
  5. Ability to work under strict deadlines.
  6. Capability to interpret documentation and possess a basic understanding of coding levels.
  7. Proficiency in CPT, ICD9, HCPCS, RBRVS, Medical Terminology, and Modifier 95 & 97 guidelines of E&M.
  8. A minimum of 2-5 years of experience in data entry, preferably in a healthcare environment.
  9. Experience in orthopaedics, physical therapy, and/or podiatry is preferred.
TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
  1. Requires sitting and walking, with occasional stooping, reaching, and bending.
  2. Occasional lifting of up to thirty pounds.
  3. Normal hearing range for telephone and personal communication.
  4. Manual dexterity sufficient to operate keyboards and other office equipment.
SALARY:

$16 - $21 per hour
