Job Summary:

A Structural Analysis Engineer is needed for a major U.S. defense contractor and industrial corporation with core manufacturing concentrations in weapons and military and commercial electronics. This role focuses on performing structural analysis and FEA on aerospace propeller components while supporting design, development, and in-service investigations.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and damage tolerance analyses on propeller products (domes, yokes, hubs, bolted joints, control housings).
  • Assess static and fatigue requirements for propeller components.
  • Lead analysis activities to establish a major inspection interval for propeller systems.
  • Identify component tests needed and perform FEA/damage tolerance analyses.
  • Support design activities for primary structure and control system components.
  • Provide analytical support for preliminary and detailed design throughout development, validation, certification, and operational service.
  • Perform structural static and fatigue analyses with damage tolerance considerations using FEA or classical methods.
  • Develop and document analysis conclusions to establish design requirements or service limits.
  • Support propeller system in-service investigations.
  • Coordinate with others to advance technology and improve engineering processes and methods.
  • Generate engineering reports based on analysis and test activities.
  • Interact with internal and external customers, vendors, and suppliers.
  • Participate in multi-discipline teams to provide design solutions that balance durability, performance, cost, and weight.
  • Participate in internal and external product design engineering teams and reviews.
  • Coordinate with teams in various locations, including Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) teams and program offices.
  • Occasional domestic and international travel to support maintainers, suppliers, customers, and aircraft operators.
  • Perform other duties as required.
Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree with 5 years of relevant experience OR advanced degree with 3 years of experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • 10 years of structural analysis experience with MSC Software (Nastran/Patran), NX Nastran, or equivalent FEA software.
  • 5 years of design and analysis experience with aerospace structural components.
  • Experience with Siemens NX/Unigraphics or similar CAD software.
  • Experience with stress-life fatigue analysis.
  • Experience with the analysis of bolted joints.
  • Experience with Damage Tolerance Analysis (NASGRO) is a plus.
  • Advanced experience with non-linear FEA models, including assembly models with contact, plasticity, and large deformation.
  • Experience with modal and dynamic response analysis is a plus.
  • Experience in one or more programming languages (e.g., MATLAB, Python, Fortran); Fortran experience is a plus.
  • Experience with structural analysis workflow optimization.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to present to customers, operators, and leadership at various levels.
  • Familiarity with ASME Y14.5 (GD&T dimensioning and tolerancing).
