Job Summary

The University of Texas at Austin is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Building Security Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our security team, you will be responsible for safeguarding university buildings and property.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate with facility supervisors to ensure the security and safety of university buildings and property.
  • Maintain staff schedules and key administration to ensure efficient and secure access to university facilities.
  • Ensure the proper operation and maintenance of surveillance equipment and electronic systems.
  • Support incident management and emergency response efforts, and serve as the first point of contact for team members' guests and visitors.
  • Inspect fire protection, firefighting, and other safety equipment to ensure proper operation.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent, with a minimum of 2+ years of experience in security technical support.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate degree or certificate in Criminal Justice or a related field.

Driving Requirements

This position requires a Class C operator's driver's license. The selected candidate must provide a current three-year driving record from their current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, a Texas driver's license must be obtained within 30 days of becoming a Texas resident.

Working Conditions

  • Must be able to ascend and descend ladders, scaffolds, stairs, and work in confined spaces and in proximity to loud equipment.
  • Must be able to lift and carry or otherwise move 25/50/80 pounds regularly/occasionally.
  • Must be able to respond quickly to suspicious sounds.
  • Must be able to see and respond to emergency situations.
  • Must be able to safely climb ladders while carrying up to 40 pounds.
  • Must be able to traverse irregular and steep terrain.
  • Exposure to variable weather conditions, including rain, cold, and extreme heat.

Work Shift

Varying days off, occasional weekend, and overtime.
