About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead the design and development of innovative connected pet care products at Whisker. As a key member of our engineering team, you will be responsible for creating mechanical designs, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and driving product development from concept to mass production.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and Development: Utilize CAD software to create mechanical designs, develop plastic injection molded parts, and integrate circuit board assemblies and hardware into products.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Work closely with electrical engineers, tooling engineers, and suppliers to ensure precision, functionality, and adherence to project specifications.
  • Design Optimization: Continuously evaluate and optimize mechanical designs for efficiency, manufacturability, and cost-effectiveness, leveraging expertise in materials, manufacturing processes, and design best practices.
  • Documentation and Technical Writing: Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation, including design specifications, technical drawings, and engineering documentation.
  • Systems Thinking: Demonstrate a systems-thinking mentality to understand how other engineering disciplines integrate together to achieve product requirements.
Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Experience: 5+ years of industry experience in mechanical design, with 3+ years of experience using Creo CAD for design of consumer products.
  • Skills: Design for Manufacturability (DFM), Design for Assembly (DFA), statistical tolerance analysis techniques, GD&T, and 3D/2D CAD (Creo, NX, Solidworks).
  • Knowledge: Material properties, testing and analysis experience (FEA, Simulation, Design of Experiments, etc.), and high-volume manufacturing techniques (stamping, machining, injection molding, etc.).
  • Personal Qualities: Maintain confidentiality of proprietary information, ability to maintain a professional atmosphere in a fast-paced environment, and a high degree of initiative and self-motivation.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Consumer Product Design Experience: 8+ years of experience in consumer product design, including full systems ownership.
  • Creo CAD and Windchill Administration: 6+ years of experience using Creo CAD and Windchill administration.
  • System Integration Experience: Experience with system integration, including electro-mechanical components, waterproofing, thermals, grounding, or product architecture.
  • Supplier Collaboration: Experience collaborating with suppliers around the world on part manufacturing and final assembly, including onsite factory support.
