Mathematics Educator

Melbourne, Florida, United States Schools (Government) Full time

Position Overview

The role of a Mathematics Educator encompasses two distinct classifications: Range 1 and Range 2. The primary responsibility of the Mathematics Educator is to design, prepare, and deliver educational programs aimed at achieving defined student learning outcomes. This role requires ongoing reflection and inquiry to enhance knowledge and skills, thereby effectively engaging students and fostering their academic growth.

As Mathematics Educators accumulate experience, their contributions to the educational institution extend beyond the classroom. All educators may be tasked with additional responsibilities beyond their scheduled teaching duties, provided these responsibilities align with their salary classification, qualifications, training, and experience.

Range 2 Mathematics Educator
Range 2 Mathematics Educators play a pivotal role in supporting the institution's efforts to enhance student performance and educational outcomes as outlined in the strategic plan and state-wide priorities. They also contribute to the formulation and execution of institutional policies and priorities.

A vital aspect of this position involves expanding the knowledge base of colleagues regarding student learning and high-quality instructional practices, assisting the institution in defining exemplary teaching methodologies.

Range 2 Mathematics Educators are expected to:
- Possess comprehensive content knowledge and pedagogical skills to address the diverse needs of all learners
- Exemplify outstanding classroom practices and mentor fellow educators in critical reflection of their instructional methods
- Provide expert guidance on content, processes, and strategies that will influence individual and institutional professional development
- Supervise and mentor one or more student teachers
- Assist colleagues in utilizing student performance data to inform instructional strategies aimed at achieving targeted improvements in student learning outcomes.

Range 1 Mathematics Educator
The primary focus of a Range 1 Mathematics Educator is to further develop the skills and competencies necessary to become an effective educator, supported by structured guidance from more experienced colleagues. These educators are responsible for teaching various student groups and are accountable for the successful delivery of their educational programs. Range 1 Mathematics Educators operate under general supervision, adhering to established guidelines and documented priorities, and may oversee the training of one or more student teachers.

At this level, educators are involved in the development of institutional policies and programs, assisting in the implementation of institutional priorities.
The emphasis for Range 1 Mathematics Educators is on classroom management, subject content, and instructional practices. New entrants to the teaching profession receive structured support, mentoring, and guidance from more experienced educators.

Under supervision, new educators will plan and instruct student groups in one or more subjects and are expected to engage in induction programs and other professional development activities designed to integrate curriculum, assessment, and pedagogy across the institution.

Range 1 Mathematics Educators are responsible for teaching their own classes and may also participate in policy development, project teams, and the organization of extracurricular activities.

Key Responsibilities

The responsibilities of a Mathematics Educator may include, but are not limited to:

  • Direct instruction of student groups and individual learners;
  • Contributing to the development, implementation, and evaluation of a curriculum area or other educational programs within the institution;
  • Performing additional teaching-related and organizational duties as directed by the Principal;
  • Engaging in activities such as parent-teacher meetings, staff meetings, camps, and excursions;
  • Undertaking other non-teaching supervisory responsibilities.

Eligibility Criteria

Candidates must be currently registered or eligible for registration with the relevant teaching authority and possess the qualifications and/or demonstrated experience in the specified curriculum areas for the position.

Commitment to EEO and OHS

The institution encourages applications from individuals seeking part-time employment for any teaching service position. If selected, candidates may request a reduced time fraction, which will be negotiated on a case-by-case basis, subject to the operational needs of the institution.

The Department of Education is dedicated to the principles of equal opportunity, diversity, and inclusion for all. We value diversity in all forms, including gender, religion, ethnicity, LGBTIQ+, disability, and neurodiversity. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander candidates are strongly encouraged to apply for roles within the Department. The Department recognizes that providing family-friendly, supportive, safe, and harassment-free workplaces is essential for high performance and promotes flexible work, diversity, and safety across all educational institutions.

Child Safety Standards

Government schools prioritize child safety and actively promote the well-being of all students. All staff members are committed to protecting students from abuse or harm within the educational environment, in accordance with legal obligations, including child safety standards. Each school has a Child Safety Code of Conduct consistent with the department's guidelines.

Department Values

Employees of the department commit to upholding the department's values: Responsiveness, Integrity, Impartiality, Accountability, Respect, Leadership, and Human Rights. These values complement each school's own values and underpin the expected behaviors of Victorian public sector employees, including those working in government schools.

Additional Information

Applicants are requested to submit their applications, which must include:

  • A specific response to all key selection criteria and position details, limited to no more than 7 pages;
  • A CV summarizing experience and qualifications;
  • Names and contact details of up to three referees who can provide information regarding the applicant in relation to the key selection criteria.

Conditions of Employment

  • All staff employed by the Department and schools have access to a broad range of employment conditions and working arrangements.
  • Appointment of successful applicants will be contingent upon a satisfactory pre-employment conditions check.
  • A probationary period may apply during the first year of employment, with induction and support programs provided.
  • Detailed information on all terms and conditions of employment is available on the Department's Human Resources website.

VIT LANTITE

To be eligible for employment, transfer, or promotion in the principal or teacher class, individuals must have provisional or full registration from the relevant teaching authority. Additionally, individuals who graduated from a Victorian Initial Teacher Education program after a specified date must demonstrate that they have passed the literacy and numeracy test for initial teacher education (LANTITE) requirements.
