Job Summary:

The Department of Internal Medicine at the VCU School of Medicine is seeking a highly skilled Communications Director to oversee strategic messaging across the department's 11 sub-specialty divisions and 7 programmatic areas. As a key member of the department's leadership team, the successful candidate will be responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive communications strategy that aligns with the school's tripartite mission and promotes the department's goals and objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop and implement a strategic communications plan that promotes the department's mission, goals, and objectives
• Collaborate with departmental leaders, faculty, and staff to develop and disseminate key messaging across the department
• Manage and maintain the department's internal and external communications channels, including social media, email, and print materials
• Develop and implement a marketing and communications strategy to promote the department's programs, services, and initiatives
• Analyze and evaluate the effectiveness of communications efforts and make recommendations for improvement
• Collaborate with the school's marketing and communications team to ensure alignment and consistency in messaging and branding

Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, or a related field, and 5+ years of relevant experience
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to develop and deliver compelling messaging
• Proven experience in developing and implementing communications strategies, with a focus on internal and external communications
• Excellent organizational, time management, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment
• Experience working in a healthcare environment, with knowledge of the VCU Health System and its mission
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a strong commitment to collaboration and teamwork

Preferred Qualifications:

• Master's degree in communications, marketing, or a related field
• 10+ years of experience in communications, marketing, or a related field, with a focus on internal and external communications
• Experience working in a senior leadership role, with a focus on strategic communications and marketing
• Familiarity with the VCU Health System and its mission, with a strong understanding of the school's tripartite mission and its implications for communications and marketing
