Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Firefighter to join our team at the City of Starkville. As a Firefighter, you will play a critical role in protecting the lives and property of our citizens by responding to emergency situations and providing medical assistance when needed.

Key Responsibilities
  • Respond to fire alarms and extinguish fires in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Provide emergency medical services, including rendering first aid and transporting patients to medical facilities.
  • Participate in training activities and instruction sessions to maintain and improve skills and knowledge.
  • Inspect and maintain equipment and apparatus to ensure they are in good working condition.
  • Perform various public information and education tasks to promote fire safety and prevention.
  • Enter inspection, training, and emergency call data into records management systems.
  • Work in a safe manner and report any unsafe conditions or activities.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid driver's license with a good driving record.
  • No felony record.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and follow orders.
  • Ability to read, comprehend, and follow written and oral instructions.
  • Ability to perform a wide variety of duties and responsibilities with accuracy and speed.
Working Conditions

Firefighters work in a variety of environments, including extreme temperatures, weather conditions, and physical demands. They must be able to lift and move heavy equipment and supplies, and work in confined spaces. Firefighters must also be able to communicate effectively with others and work well under pressure.

Physical Demands
  • Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to stand, sit, walk, and climb for extended periods.
  • Ability to use hands and arms to handle and operate equipment.
  • Ability to see and hear in the normal visual and audio range.
Education and Experience

A high school diploma or equivalent is required. A valid driver's license and a good driving record are also required. Firefighters must be able to pass a physical fitness test and a written exam to assess critical skills.
