Firefighter Position

This position is for certified firefighters who have completed fire academy training. The Firefighter is responsible for controlling and extinguishing fires, protecting life and property, maintaining equipment, and performing related tasks as assigned.

• Respond to fire alarms and extinguish fires.
• Respond to emergency medical services and render first aid.
• Assist in emergency situations and provide support as needed.
• Clean and inspect equipment and apparatus after returning from a fire.
• Notify superior officers of any defects or issues with equipment.
• Perform minor repairs to equipment and apparatus, and maintain records of such actions.
• Keep the fire station, equipment, and grounds in a clean and orderly condition.
• Participate in training activities and instruction sessions.
• Acquire and retain a thorough knowledge of the City, including streets, buildings, water supply, and unusual hazards.
• Perform public information or education tasks as required.
• Enter inspection, training, and emergency service calls into records management systems.
• Perform all work duties and activities in accordance with City policies and procedures.
• Work in a safe manner and report any unsafe activity or conditions.

• A high school diploma or state-recognized equivalent.
• A valid driver's license with a good driving record.
• No felony record.
• Ability to work in all types of weather and temperature conditions.
• Ability to walk, stand, sit, talk, and hear for long periods.
• Ability to use hands to handle, feel, or operate objects, tools, or controls.
• Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

The employee will work in a fast-paced environment with frequent exposure to emergency situations. The employee must be able to work in a team environment and follow instructions from superiors. The employee must also be able to maintain a clean and orderly work environment.
