Job Summary

This is an exciting opportunity to join the VETERANS HEALTH ADMINISTRATION as a General Internal Medicine Physician (Primary Care) in a dynamic and patient-centered environment. As a key member of our healthcare team, you will be responsible for providing high-quality medical care to our patients, working collaboratively with other healthcare professionals to ensure comprehensive and coordinated care.

Responsibilities
  • Evaluate and manage patients with a wide range of medical conditions, including hypertension, diabetes, ischemic heart disease, and chronic pain.
  • Order diagnostic tests, consult with specialists, and prescribe medications as medically indicated.
  • Meet preventative health maintenance needs and complete all required VA computer documentation, including clinical reminders and screenings.
  • Work collaboratively with other healthcare professionals to ensure comprehensive and coordinated care.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and contribute to the development of policies and procedures to improve patient care.
Requirements
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Must have a Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.) degree from an accredited medical school.
  • Must be board certified or board eligible in Internal Medicine or Family Medicine.
  • Must have a valid, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine in any U.S. state or territory.
  • Must have completed a residency program in Internal Medicine or Family Medicine.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Significant experience in Internal Medicine or Family Medicine.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare teams.
Working Conditions

This position is located at one of the sites of care within the VA Palo Alto Health Care System. The incumbent will be responsible for working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, with frequent interruptions and changing priorities. The incumbent must be able to work effectively in a team environment, communicate effectively with patients and families, and maintain confidentiality and discretion when handling sensitive patient information.
