JOB OVERVIEW
Position: Certified Clinical Assistant
Supervision: Reports to the Clinic Practice Manager
Status: Full-Time
Classification: Hourly (Non-Exempt)
Compensation: $19.00/hour, based on experience, with an additional .50/hour for bilingual proficiency
Benefits: After 90 consecutive calendar days of employment, eligible for paid Sick Time, as well as participation in Group Health, Dental, Vision, and 403(b) Plans (with company match after 24 months). After six months of employment, eligible for paid Vacation Time.
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Certified Clinical Assistant role is a Full-Time position requiring a minimum of 37.5 hours per week. This certified role involves working closely with a diverse patient population, including individuals living with chronic conditions.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
● Review patient medical records for relevant information and input data into the Electronic Health Record (EHR) system utilized by the clinic.
● Escort patients to examination rooms and manage patient triage effectively.
● Communicate professionally with patients and clinical personnel.
● Gather patient medical history and initial vital signs, including temperature, pulse, blood pressure, respiration, height, weight, and BMI.
● Document patients' primary concerns and alert clinical staff to any unusual symptoms or issues.
● Support clinical staff in maintaining an efficient workflow.
● Assist with patient follow-up via telephone (as directed by clinical staff), scheduling appointments, reviewing test results, filing, chart documentation, checking voicemail messages, returning calls, and performing general administrative tasks as needed.
● Provide basic health education to patients.
● Ensure cleanliness and proper condition of examination rooms and clinic work areas.
● Maintain inventory of supplies, ensuring areas are adequately stocked and that medical supplies are not expired.
● Conduct spirometry, EKG, point-of-care testing, and phlebotomy services as directed, along with any additional support required by clinical staff.
● Administer injections and immunizations as ordered by clinical staff.
● Report any unusual occurrences that may affect the safety and well-being of patients and/or colleagues.
● Uphold patient confidentiality by adhering to HIPAA guidelines regarding medical, personal, and financial information.
● Promote and embody the mission and values of Harmony Healthcare Kissimmee, following all policies, processes, and procedures.
● Work effectively and professionally with a diverse population, treating all clinical staff and patients with the utmost respect.
● Participate in all required training and certifications, including but not limited to: HIPAA, Biohazardous Waste, CPR/BLS, and rapid testing protocols.
● Conduct rapid testing as needed and ensure all documentation is properly managed according to health guidelines.
● Attend and assist during community outreach events as required.
CORE DUTIES:
● Provide patient customer service, clerical, and reception duties.
● Execute certified clinical assisting responsibilities.
● Maintain an adequate supply of medical materials.
● Perform charting and patient follow-up.
● Conduct rapid testing as needed after completing the training program.
● Exhibit regular, dependable attendance and maintain satisfactory job performance.
● Other responsibilities as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
● Recommended vaccinations for healthcare workers, including COVID-19 and Mpox vaccinations.
● Proficiency in English, both oral and written.
● Familiarity with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, etc.).
● Knowledge of additional languages is welcomed, particularly Spanish and Creole.
● Experience working with the HIV/AIDS community is preferred.
● Maintenance of certification and recertification requirements is the responsibility of the Medical Assistant.
CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES:
● High School Diploma or GED.
● Valid Driver's License and access to reliable transportation.
● Licensed Medical Assistant Certificate is required, necessitating graduation from an accredited Medical Assisting program, successful completion of a practicum, and passing a certification exam from a recognized certifying body.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
This position involves working in an office environment and at outreach events, with 50-70% of the time spent sitting and the remainder standing or walking. Must be able to lift/move up to 30 pounds. Occasional travel for community outreach events may be necessary.
