Job Summary

The Chemehuevi Tribe is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Planning Director to join our team. As a key member of our Realty-Planning Department, the Planning Director will be responsible for overseeing the planning and development of our tribal lands.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement plans and policies to promote the economic and social well-being of the Chemehuevi Tribe.
  • Provide technical assistance and guidance to tribal departments and agencies on planning and development matters.
  • Review and process development applications, ensuring compliance with tribal codes and regulations.
  • Collaborate with other tribal departments and external agencies to ensure effective planning and development practices.
  • Prepare and present reports to the Tribal Council and Planning Commission on planning and development matters.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with external stakeholders, including government agencies, developers, and community groups.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in planning, public administration, or a related field.
  • At least one year of professional planning experience with a governmental agency.
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of local government planning, including applicable federal, state, or tribal laws affecting planning.
  • Ability to speak and write well, with experience in preparing written and oral reports.
  • Proficiency in MS-Word, Excel, and Adobe PDF Editor software.
  • Basic understanding of blueprints, contracts, building codes, and survey techniques and terminology.
  • Knowledge of Federal Grant/Loans requirements for eligibility, expenditures, and application towards planning and project execution.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in planning or a related field.
  • Experience in tribal planning and development.
  • Knowledge of tribal laws and regulations.
Working Conditions

This is a full-time position that requires a good work ethic, attendance, and promptness. The successful candidate will be required to pass a pre-employment drug screening and background check.
