Clinical Nurse Specialist

Overview:
This role encompasses a range of integrated nursing functions, employing the nursing process while utilizing extensive nursing knowledge in a compassionate and attentive manner.
Key Responsibilities:
(25%)* Conducts comprehensive assessments of patients, focusing on physical, emotional, psychosocial, and familial support needs.
(25%)* Organizes and manages all facets of patient care based on the actual and/or perceived requirements of the patient.
(25%)* Monitors patient progress by aligning patient data with nursing expertise to ascertain if objectives are being achieved in accordance with the patient's care plan or clinical pathway.
(25%)* Engages in consultation and collaboration with healthcare team members to devise and execute comprehensive patient care strategies.
Additional Duties:
Exhibits proficiency in nursing skills as per hospital and unit policies to implement the patient's care plan effectively.
Educates patients and their families.
Provides instruction, support, and coordination of healthcare plans for patients and families throughout the acute phase of illness, as necessary.
Encourages the development of clinical knowledge, including critical thinking skills, and enhances strategies for evaluating clinical judgment through research and ongoing education.
In the execution of regular job responsibilities, this position is authorized access to the medication and supply rooms for inventory purposes.
Certifications and Licenses:
ACLS - Advanced Cardiac Life Support
Required Equivalent Experience - Within 12 months of hire or transfer
BLS - Basic Life Support
Required Equivalent Experience - Within 3 months of hire or transfer
DIMC - Dysrhythmia Interpretation Management
Required Equivalent Experience - Within 12 months of hire or transfer
RN - Registered Nurse
Required Equivalent Experience -TEAM ADVANCED - Techniques for Effective Aggression Management
Required Equivalent Experience - Within 6 months of hire or transfer
Education Requirements:

Associate's Degree

Bachelor's degree in nursing is preferred.
Other Information:
Experience, Training, and Skills:
Completion of the orientation process as directed by the Progressive Care Unit (PCU) nurse manager and critical care educator.
Strong interpersonal skills are essential for effective communication with individuals and groups, enabling interaction with people at all levels to convey ideas and concepts clearly.
PCCN certification is preferred.
Physical and Mental Requirements:
Exposure to high-stress situations, including public interactions, trauma, grief, and death.
Able to wear personal protective equipment, including latex materials or suitable alternatives as required for the position.
Must be capable of moving freely throughout the facility with or without assistive devices and must perform job functions as outlined in the job description.
Frequent requirements to sit, stand, or walk for extended periods. May necessitate frequent postural adjustments such as stooping, kneeling, or crouching.
Some exposure to bloodborne pathogens and other potentially infectious materials. Compliance with MyMichigan Health bloodborne pathogen and TB testing requirements is mandatory.
Ability to manage multiple tasks, collaborate effectively with others, work independently, maintain regular attendance, and remain alert.

Must be able to occasionally (0-33% of the workday) lift or carry 21-50 lbs., frequently (34-66% of the workday) lift 20 lbs., and/or walk/stand/push/pull arm/leg controls consistently (67-100% of the workday) lift 10 lbs.
