Overview:
The Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) plays a vital role in providing direct patient care and showcases proficient clinical skills. This position involves triaging patients, gathering medical history and vital signs, and conducting thorough assessments. The CNS acts autonomously to deliver immediate care in critical situations when a physician is unavailable. Responsibilities include caring for both critically ill and stable patients, performing a variety of procedures using advanced and basic nursing techniques, and assisting physicians during their procedures. The CNS also offers emotional and physical support to patients, families, and visitors, while providing discharge instructions and follow-up care. Additionally, the CNS is responsible for responding to emergency calls and issuing appropriate pre-hospital care directives. This role requires the use of sophisticated medical equipment and the ability to manage various patient scenarios in a high-pressure environment.

Key Responsibilities:
(25%)* Conducts comprehensive nursing assessments, intervenes promptly, and collaborates in care planning.

(25%)* Regularly evaluates patient needs and delivers skilled nursing services as per the physician's approved care plan and established nursing standards.

(20%)* Accurately processes physician orders and follows up on medication adjustments and clarifications.

(15%)* Assesses the effectiveness of treatment plans and suggests modifications to enhance patient care.

(15%)* Actively engages in updating and revising treatment plans in collaboration with the healthcare team, utilizing current data.

Additional Duties:
Employs physical assessment techniques (auscultation, percussion, palpation, observation) to identify patient care needs. Recognizes personal limitations and seeks appropriate resources.

Demonstrates clinical expertise in airway management, cardiac monitoring, intravenous therapy, blood gas analysis, venipuncture, and physical assessment.

Continuously reassesses patient health status and identifies significant changes in condition.

Customizes care plans to meet individual patient needs.

Coordinates care plans with healthcare team orders.

Communicates essential care details to patients, families, and other healthcare professionals.

Initiates home health referrals when necessary.

Prioritizes and implements nursing interventions aligned with identified care plans and standards.

Recognizes changes in patient conditions and takes appropriate actions to manage symptoms and enhance comfort.

Upholds patient dignity and privacy throughout care.

Documents nursing interventions and patient responses accurately.

Maintains a safe patient environment and takes preventive measures against risks.

Facilitates patient and family education, explaining procedures and utilizing available educational resources.

Exhibits strong interpersonal skills with patients and colleagues.

Assists colleagues in patient care tasks.

Identifies stress in others and employs positive coping strategies.

Sets goals and prioritizes emergency care based on patient acuity.

Adheres to medical center policies and procedures, including attendance.

Participates in ongoing education programs and training.

Required Education:
Associates Degree in Nursing

Experience and Skills:
Minimum of two years of experience in a medical center or similar healthcare setting.

Physical and Mental Requirements:
Ability to manage stressful situations, including public interactions and trauma. Must be capable of wearing personal protective equipment and moving freely within the facility. Overall vision and hearing capabilities are necessary. Frequent sitting, standing, and walking for extended periods are required, along with the ability to perform various physical tasks. Exposure to bloodborne pathogens and other infectious materials is possible, necessitating adherence to safety protocols. Must demonstrate effective multitasking abilities and maintain regular attendance.
