Position Overview

Extra USA, LP is an expanding enterprise seeking a dedicated, full-time Lead Aircraft Mechanic for our operational facility. The Lead Aircraft Mechanic will be tasked with supervising aircraft assembly, maintenance, and repairs, executing inspections, diagnosing aircraft systems, and ensuring adherence to safety standards. This role is pivotal to the ongoing growth of the company within the North American market and may involve travel to support our clientele and their aircraft.

Founded in 1980 as Extra Flugzeugbau in Germany by Walter Extra, an accomplished aerobatic pilot, Extra Aircraft specializes in the design and development of high-performance aerobatic aircraft. The company operates from Dinslaken airfield in Hünxe, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, and has established a reputation for excellence with its championship-winning EXTRA aircraft lineup, which includes models such as the EA-200, EA-300L, EA-300LP, EA-330LT, EA330LC, EA330LX, and EA-330SC. In response to market demands, Extra Aircraft has launched a dedicated service and sales center in the USA, providing comprehensive sales, aviation maintenance services, and parts for the North American market.

Working Environment:

  • All operations are conducted within an aircraft hangar.
  • Work conditions may involve high temperatures during summer months.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Possession of FAA Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) Certification with inspection authorization (IA) is mandatory.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience as an A&P is essential.
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required; an associate or bachelor's degree in aviation maintenance or a related field is preferred.
  • Willingness to become an EXTRA Aircraft Certified Mechanic (at company expense) within 6 months of employment is necessary.
  • Ability to provide a standard A&P tool kit is required.
  • Knowledge of composite repair is advantageous.
  • Capability to perform aircraft touch-up painting is a plus.

Essential Skills and Responsibilities:

  • Proficient in Aircraft Structures and Aircraft Systems.
  • Experienced in Power Plant and Aircraft Maintenance.
  • Strong background in aircraft maintenance and repair.
  • Familiarity with FAA regulations and safety protocols.
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Able to collaborate effectively with international teams.
  • Physical capability to lift equipment and materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to navigate the shop/hangar area and within aircraft throughout the workday.
  • Commitment to performing all job-related duties with the utmost ethics, integrity, safety, and honesty.
