  • Assist students with all aspects of toileting, including diapering and lifting on and off the toilet.
  • Assist with the management of self-care needs and movement of students with special needs.
  • Obtain food from the cafeteria, serve food, and feed students as needed.
  • Assist in maintaining discipline and responding to the physical needs of students on special education buses.
  • Perform basic health, first aid, or basic nursing care for special education students as directed or authorized by a school nurse.
  • Implement behavior management plans consistent with teacher implementation instructions.
  • Adjust or rephrase portions of texts and classroom instruction to support student learning.
  • Attend IEP meetings as requested.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding school/workplace matters in accordance with state and federal law.
  • Perform duties in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Demonstrate initiative in identifying potential opportunities for improvement in areas of responsibility.
  • Respond to inquiries and requests in a timely and positive manner.
  • Maintain and submit required reports, records, and correspondence in a timely and accurate manner using technology or other means as directed.
  • Properly care for equipment and material resources of the school system.
  • Use collaboration skills to work as a productive team member.
  • Adhere to school system rules, administrative procedures, local Board policies, and state, federal, and local laws.
  • Report absences and take leave in accordance with Board policies and procedures.
Requirements:
  • Associate's degree or 48 semester hours from an accredited college or a passing score on the ACT WorkKeys Assessment.
  • Ability to meet the suitability criteria for employment and/or certification/licensure under the Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No.
  • Ability and willingness to work in a highly demanding, stressful environment.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in oral and written communication with students, parents, and others.
  • Effective interpersonal skills, with an emphasis on communication and collaboration with a wide variety of people and groups.
  • Ability to carry out verbal and written instructions.
  • Physical strength, agility, dexterity, acuity, and mobility to perform job responsibilities.
  • Ability to use technology to communicate, manage data, and produce/submit required reports, correspondence, and/or financial information.
  • Ability to follow instructions and accept constructive feedback.
  • Ability to stand, walk, stoop, and assist with student toileting and specific hygiene needs.
  • Ability to transfer students, feed students, and provide physical support and intervention when required.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work flexible hours as needed to provide assistance for assigned students on special education buses.
  • Ability to be punctual and in regular attendance.
