Job Summary

This role is responsible for providing support to students with disabilities in a classroom setting. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of academic and behavioral strategies and techniques to assist students in learning.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist the teacher in achieving identified instructional/behavioral objectives
  • Help students take full advantage of the instructional program and available resource materials
  • Work with small groups of students to reinforce learning initially introduced by the teacher
  • Guide independent study, enrichment work, and corrective instruction directed by the teacher
  • Assist individual students who need special attention and/or assistance
Requirements
  • Two (2) years of college level education; Valid Alabama Teacher's Certificate preferred
  • Prior experience working with students with disabilities preferred
  • Knowledge and understanding of academic and behavioral strategies and techniques to assist students in learning
  • Physically able to participate in restraint training and participate in restraint of a student, if needed
  • Ability to use current technology
  • Effective interpersonal skills, with an emphasis on communication and collaboration with a wide variety of people and groups
  • Ability to work as a member of a team
  • Ability to deal with confidential and sensitive information in a professional manner
