Job Overview

Position Summary:

Oversee activities in aquatic environments to ensure a secure atmosphere, implementing pool regulations while enhancing the enjoyment of the facility.

Reports To: Program Director - Aquatics

Key Responsibilities:

1. Ensure the health and safety of all individuals in the aquatic area, addressing unsafe practices and conditions, and providing rescue and first aid as necessary. Document incidents and injuries appropriately.

2. Maintain the cleanliness of the pool and its surroundings, which includes monitoring chemical levels such as pH and chlorine.

3. Adhere to operational protocols regarding the opening and closing of the pool, along with the proper use and storage of equipment.

4. Report any maintenance or safety concerns to the Aquatics Director.

5. Assist aquatics instructors during classes.

6. Attend staff meetings and events, exemplifying and teaching the values of caring, respect, responsibility, and honesty.

7. Arrive prepared for scheduled shifts, including being on duty 15 minutes early, dressed appropriately, and ready for continuous monitoring of swimmers without distractions.

8. Collaborate effectively with staff, volunteers, and members to foster a team-oriented and welcoming environment.

9. May oversee Aquatics Aids.

Qualifications:

Education and Experience:

High School diploma (GED) preferred.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to anticipate, identify, and address members' needs to ensure safety and enjoyment. Complete required paperwork accurately and handle conflicts professionally. Follow instructions as directed by supervisors.

Certifications / Training:

YMCA Lifeguard Certification or equivalent.

State Lifeguard Certification.

First Aid and CPR Certification (including two-man and pocket mask use).

Oxygen Administration Certification.

Child Abuse Prevention Training.

Working Towards:

YASA - YMCA Aquatic Safety Assistance.

PYALS - Principles of YMCA Aquatics Leadership.
