Aquatic Safety Officer

Job Description:

InsideHigherEd is looking for dedicated candidates for the seasonal Aquatic Safety Officer role. This position is crucial for maintaining the safety and welfare of pool patrons at our aquatic facility, which includes students, faculty, staff, alumni, and community members. The primary responsibility is to prevent and respond to emergencies effectively.

All employees are expected to uphold high ethical standards and adhere to all relevant regulations. The duties of this role must be performed in compliance with established safety guidelines and any violations must be reported to the appropriate authorities.

Qualifications and Experience
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Current certification in Lifeguarding, First Aid, and CPR for the Professional Rescuer, or equivalent qualifications.

Essential Skills
  • Candidates must demonstrate proficiency in swim and rescue skills during the interview process, including a Swim Test, Brick Test, and various rescue scenarios.
  • Ability to respond swiftly in emergency situations using appropriate rescue equipment.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of lifeguarding techniques to manage breathing and cardiac emergencies, injuries, and sudden illnesses until emergency services arrive.
  • Capacity to make prompt decisions and take decisive actions. Must enforce facility rules consistently and professionally.
  • Commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive environment.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills.
  • Dependability and punctuality for scheduled shifts are essential.


All employees are required to maintain ethical conduct and comply with safety regulations. Those in supervisory roles must receive ongoing education related to safety practices and maintain current certifications.
