Job Title: Environmental Protection Specialist

Naval Facilities Engineering Systems Command (NAVFAC) Southwest is seeking a highly motivated and broad-thinking Environmental Protection Specialist to join our team. This is a developmental position located in the Environmental Division within the Public Works Department.

The Environmental Division is responsible for aspects of the Navy environmental protection program in Ventura County. As an Environmental Protection Specialist, you will provide environmental program support to ensure base operations comply with federal, state, and local environmental compliance regulations.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Support various environmental programs such as Hazardous Waste Management, Installation Restoration, Water Quality, Wastewater, Air Quality, Pollution Prevention, Hazardous Substance Spill Contingency, Spill Prevention Control and Countermeasure, and related programs.
  • Assist in field visits and field work to conduct environmental inspections, site investigations, and surveys to determine environmental compliance.
  • Assist in preparing draft correspondence, technical reports, field logs, and inspection reports.
  • Collaborate in making recommendations to resolve non-compliance issues.
Preferred Experience:
  • Knowledge of one or more environmental compliance programs or related fields, including but not limited to: National Environmental Policy Act/environmental planning; Air Quality; Water Quality; Hazardous Waste; Pollution Prevention; Solid Waste Management/Recycling; and spill response.
  • Following guidelines to assist in completion of day-to-day environmental compliance.
  • Gathering data to collect and review information on environmental activities.
  • Recognizing potential or existing environmental non-compliance issues, hazards, or violations.
Requirements:
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Must hold U.S. Citizenship
  • Aged 18 or older at time of hire
  • Males born after must be registered for Selective Service.
  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
