Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Environmental Protection Engineer to join our team at the Orange County Sanitation District. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for implementing the Federal Pretreatment Program and protecting the Groundwater Replenishment System (GWRS).

Key Responsibilities
  • Issuing control mechanisms in accordance with the Code of Federal Regulations (40 CFR) and OC San Ordinance
  • Issuing and renewing industrial wastewater discharge permits to industrial facilities
  • Evaluating permit applications and design drawings of industrial waste management practices
  • Implementing permittees' industrial sampling and monitoring programs
  • Performing evaluations of the permittees' corrective response plans and waste management proposals
  • Conducting technical facility inspections and compliance audits to assess and verify permit application information, investigate the cause of violations, and conduct pollution prevention assessments
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree from a college or university accredited by the U.Department of Education, with major coursework in civil, mechanical, chemical, electrical, or environmental engineering, or a related field
  • Two (2) years of increasingly responsible engineering experience
  • Valid California Class C Driver's License
  • Advanced computer skills, including database management skills, pretreatment software systems, and Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, etc.)
  • Strong business writing, verbal communication, leadership, teambuilding, and negotiation skills
Working Conditions

The successful candidate will work in a standard office setting and use standard office equipment, including a computer. They will also operate a motor vehicle and visit various OC San sites, projects, and/or meetings. The position requires mobility to work in a standard office setting and use standard office equipment, including a computer; to operate a motor vehicle and visit various OC San sites, projects, and/or meetings; primarily a sedentary office classification although standing in work areas and walking between work areas may be required; ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and objects up to 35 pounds.
