Job Summary:

NYU Langone Health is a world-class, patient-centered, integrated academic medical center, known for its excellence in clinical care, research, and education. We are seeking a skilled Culinary Specialist to join our team as a Third Cook/Special Order Cook.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Prepare a variety of menu items with moderate difficulty, following instructions from immediate supervisors or designees.
  • Use good judgment and consult supervisors when necessary.
  • Prepare breakfast items, vegetables, and other cooked food items as designated.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the organization's Service Standards and incorporate them into daily duties.
  • Attend meetings and in-services for food production employees.
  • Follow established departmental sanitation standards.
  • Utilize various kitchen equipment to prepare food.
  • Maintain open communication and good relationships with colleagues.
  • Plan work assignments accordingly and utilize time effectively.
  • Provide assistance and contribute new ideas to the department.

Requirements:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum one year of cooking experience as a Cook's Helper in a high-volume healthcare institution or commercial establishment with a large volume food service.
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English.
  • Knowledge of portion control, forecasting procedures, and ingredients.
  • Ability to follow recipes, expand, and reduce recipes to desired yields.
  • Knowledge of HACCP and adherence to its principles in all operations.
  • Knowledge of food presentation and service.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Culinary degree or certificate.
  • Effective communication skills with all levels of the organization.
