About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Staff Attorney to join our Workers' Compensation team. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for handling a designated caseload of Workers' Compensation cases, appearing before the California Workers' Compensation Boards in Santa Ana, Anaheim, and Pomona.

Key Responsibilities
  • Analyze complex legal and factual issues, conduct extensive research, and develop well-reasoned legal strategies.
  • Independently create and present defense strategies on behalf of clients, preparing complex pleadings, written discovery, depositions, motions, and briefs.
  • Partner with Claims Partners to achieve the best results for our Hartford insured, providing effective and timely communications, information, legal advice, and other services.
  • Communicate with the court, witnesses, opposing counsel, and co-counsel with professional diplomacy and discretion.
  • Facilitate prompt, efficient, and effective disposition of assigned cases, preparing and presenting witnesses and evidence at trials, judicial/administrative hearings, arbitrations, and alternative dispute resolutions.
  • Research, draft, file, and argue appellate briefs on behalf of clients.
  • Participate in Team Huddles, provide in-house training to junior associates and/or claims partners, and participate in claims file reviews.
  • Attend continuing legal education seminars to maintain a high level of professional expertise.
Requirements
  • Minimum of 5 years of legal practice experience handling complex workers' compensation cases.
  • JD from an accredited law school and license to practice in the state of California.
  • Trial experience is preferred.
  • Positive-minded and collaborative team-player attitude.
  • Strong legal research and writing skills.
  • Solid MS Office proficiency (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
  • Lexis Nexis experience is a plus.
  • Self-directed with excellent organizational and prioritization skills.
  • Strong computer skills and the ability to quickly leverage new software as required.
What We Offer

This is a remote work opportunity with occasional travel to Santa Ana, Anaheim, and Pomona, California. We offer flexible work arrangements and a business casual work environment. The listed annualized base pay range is $123,360 - $185,040, and we provide a comprehensive total compensation package, including short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition.
