The Advanced Psychiatric Care Assistant (PNA III) is responsible for performing complex rehabilitative patient care services under the clinical guidance of a Registered Nurse (RN), ensuring high-quality psychiatric nursing care in an inpatient environment.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing emergency, health, and personal care services to patients.
  • Observing, documenting, and reporting patient conditions and behaviors in an electronic record.
  • Engaging therapeutically with patients and participating in both individualized and unit-based programming.
  • Maintaining ongoing therapeutic interactions with patients to enhance their living and social skills, facilitating progress towards a less restrictive environment.

As a vital member of the recovery or admissions team, you will contribute valuable insights regarding individual patient behaviors and progress towards their recovery goals. Participation in shift reports and team meetings is essential, along with performing delegated nursing duties within your competency.

Additional responsibilities include:

  • Actively participating in disaster response and recovery efforts as needed.
  • Maintaining a regular attendance and being flexible with shift schedules, including potential overtime.
  • Utilizing therapeutic communication skills to effectively engage patients in their recovery journey.
  • Providing supportive, age-appropriate care and assisting patients with daily living activities to promote independence.
  • Monitoring patient safety and health through vigilant observation.

The PNA III also serves as a liaison to the recovery team, ensuring clear communication regarding patient progress and actively participating in the implementation of individualized recovery plans. You will be expected to:

  • Utilize basic computer skills for documentation and reporting.
  • Assist licensed nurses in preparing patients for medication administration.
  • Promote safety through continuous monitoring and engagement with patients.
  • Provide guidance to junior staff members and serve as a preceptor for new employees.

Essential Skills and Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of patient care techniques and recovery programs.
  • Effective interpersonal and leadership skills.
  • Ability to take vital signs and provide first aid.
  • Strong communication skills in English, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and accept supervision.
  • Capability to train and mentor others.
