Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Psychiatric Nursing Assistant II to join our team at the Texas Department of Aging & Disability Services. As a key member of our patient care team, you will provide high-quality rehabilitative care services to patients in an inpatient setting.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide patient care services under the clinical supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) to promote quality psychiatric nursing care.
  • Observe, report, and document patient conditions and behaviors in an electronic record.
  • Interact with patients therapeutically to promote living and social skills.
  • Participate in individualized and unit-based programming to support patient recovery.
  • Serve as a liaison to the recovery team or admissions team to provide ongoing communication and support.
  • Use basic computer skills to document patient care information and communicate with team members.
  • Assist licensed nurses in preparing patients for medication administration or treatment.
  • Monitor patients' vital signs and perform other assigned tasks within competency level.
  • Actively promote safety and minimize unsafe situations and injuries.
  • Facilitate programming and co-facilitate groups as assigned or requested.
  • Respond effectively in crisis or psychiatric emergency situations.
Requirements:
  • Knowledge of patient care techniques and treatment programs.
  • Basic computer skills and documentation skills.
  • Effective interpersonal and leadership skills.
  • Ability to read, write, and understand English.
  • Ability to provide patient care, administer first aid, and conduct TIPS.
  • Ability to work with others and accept supervision.
  • Ability to train and provide guidance to others.
Working Conditions:

This position may be eligible to earn additional pay for work performed on evenings, nights, and/or weekends. The employee has full access to a limited set of records in accordance with HIPPA regulations.

Essential Functions:
  • Attends work on a regular basis and may be asked to work a specific shift schedule or rotating schedule.
  • Uses therapeutic communication skills to engage patients and assist them in meeting recovery plan objectives.
  • Provides supportive care to patients and assists with activities of daily living.
  • Monitors patients and provides observation to ensure health and safety.
  • Serves as a liaison to the recovery team or admissions team to provide ongoing communication and support.
