Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and compassionate Psychiatric Nursing Assistant I to join our team at the Texas Department of Aging & Disability Services. As a key member of our recovery team, you will provide high-quality patient care services under the clinical supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) in an inpatient setting.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide emergency, health, and personal care services to patients, including activities of daily living, hygiene, and eating.
  • Monitor patients and provide observation to ensure their health and safety.
  • Escort patients to appointments as required.
  • Participate in shift reports and recovery team meetings to ensure effective communication and collaboration.
  • Use basic computer skills and documentation procedures to communicate patient care information clearly and concisely.
  • Assist licensed nurses in preparing patients for medication administration or treatment, including taking and monitoring vital signs.
  • Actively promote safety through continuous monitoring of the environment and engagement with patients to minimize unsafe situations and injuries.
  • Facilitate programming offered on the unit or at the facility, including co-facilitating groups as assigned or requested.
  • Respond effectively in crisis or psychiatric emergency situations, using verbal de-escalation and Treatment Intervention Protection Strategies (TIPS) under the direct supervision of a RN.
Requirements
  • Knowledge of patient care techniques and treatment, therapy, developmental, and patient-centered recovery programs.
  • Basic computer skills and ability to read, write, and understand English to effectively communicate and carry out verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to provide patient care, administer first aid, and conduct TIPS.
  • Ability to work with others and accept supervision.
Working Conditions

This position may involve exposure to blood or other potentially infectious materials. The employee has full access to a limited set of records in accordance with HIPPA regulations.

Additional Information

This position may be eligible to earn additional pay for work performed on evenings, nights, and/or weekends. The employee may also be eligible to earn additional pay for work performed on maximum security locations.
