Job Summary:

The Texas Department of Aging & Disability Services is seeking a highly skilled Psychiatric Advanced Nurse Practitioner to join our team. As a key member of our healthcare team, you will provide comprehensive psychiatric care to individuals in need, working closely with other healthcare professionals to ensure the best possible outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assess, plan, and provide comprehensive psychiatric patient care independently or in collaboration with other healthcare professionals.
  • Prescribe medications, including antipsychotics, and order and interpret laboratory and diagnostic testing.
  • Conduct periodic reviews of hospitalized patients, evaluating reported changes in status or condition.
  • Oversee and develop accurate and timely documentation, including annual summaries and evaluations of assessments, compliance with policies and procedures, and revenue enhancement.
  • Participate in the hospital-wide quality assessment and performance improvement program, performing audits of medical records, monitoring compliance with standards, and developing plans of correction.
Requirements:
  • Knowledge of methods and procedures in the field of psychiatric/nursing, including laws and ordinances governing mental health and hospital operations.
  • Knowledge of principles, methods, and procedures for the delivery of medical/psychiatric evaluations, diagnosis, and treatment.
  • Skills in interpretation of laboratory results, care and treatment of patients, and use of medical diagnostic and treatment tools and equipment.
  • Ability to examine, diagnose, and treat psychiatric disorders, supervise the work of others, and interact with individuals with developmental disabilities.
  • Ability to present ideas clearly and concisely in both written and oral communications, prepare and maintain medical records, and work productively with professionals and paraprofessionals as an effective member of an interdisciplinary team.
Working Conditions:

This position requires the ability to work independently and be flexible in carrying out assigned responsibilities. The Psychiatric Advanced Nurse Practitioner will work under minimal supervision with extensive latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
