Position Summary: The Finance Director is accountable for overseeing the financial operations of the organization, which encompasses accounting, auditing, taxation, treasury management, compliance with grant contracts, budgeting, payroll, accounts receivable, accounts payable, cost management, and monitoring allowable costs. This role also involves managing Human Resources through an external consultant. Reporting directly to the CEO, the Finance Director is a key member of the Executive Management team responsible for fulfilling the organization's mission.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Preparation and thorough analysis of financial statements
  • Design financial reports tailored to management requirements
  • Supervise and lead the Finance Department Team
  • Generate federal grant quarterly and year-end reports
  • Monitor activities to refresh distribution codes for Shared Cost Allocation
  • Conduct periodic testing of the accounting system and maintain updates impacting financial data
  • Execute all year-end reconciliations and prepare reports and financial statements, including SEFA
  • Coordinate year-end audits with external CPA firms
  • Provide Form 990 Tax information to external auditors
  • Oversee reviews and negotiations of grant contracts
  • Act as Payroll Administrator, processing bi-weekly payroll and filing Federal and State quarterly returns
  • Manage outsourced HR vendors and collaborate with external Benefits providers on benefits negotiation and selection
  • Oversee the Accounts Payable process to ensure timely payments
  • Manage the Accounts Receivable process for reimbursement requests
  • Prepare the annual agency budget
  • Analyze budget versus actual reports
  • Engage with program managers monthly regarding performance related to grant contracts and budgetary matters
  • Ensure adherence to internal control processes and procedures, and initiate improvements as necessary
  • Maintain awareness and provide support on agency projects as applicable
  • Participate in proactive team efforts to achieve departmental and organizational goals
  • Exemplify leadership through example and knowledge sharing
  • Adhere to all organizational policies, practices, and procedures
  • Perform additional duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Proficient in analyzing and interpreting technical, financial, and legal documents, with the ability to respond to inquiries from managers, clients, and the public.
  • Strong mathematical skills, including the ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, and ratios to practical situations.
  • Ability to apply logical or scientific thinking to a variety of complex problems.
  • Competent in personal computer skills, including email, recordkeeping, database management, word processing, spreadsheets, and graphics.
  • Capable of managing multiple tasks simultaneously and adhering to a rigorous schedule of deadlines.

Education and Experience:

A Bachelor's degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, or a related field is required, along with a CPA designation. A minimum of ten years of relevant experience in non-profit organizations is essential, with responsibilities that include:

  • Non-Profit Fund Accounting
  • Application of U.S. GAAP and federal regulations
  • Understanding of government funding rules and procedures
  • Compliance with federal grants management
  • Supervisory experience (3-5 years) in a similar role
  • Experience with MIP Fund Accounting systems is a plus
  • Budgeting and expense management expertise
