Radiation Therapy Specialist

Position Overview
The Radiation Therapist is responsible for delivering precise treatment to patients undergoing radiation therapy, utilizing ionizing radiation in alignment with the directives provided by the Radiation Oncologist. This role operates under the direct oversight of the Chief Radiation Therapist and may require travel to various locations for patient care coverage as necessary.
Key Responsibilities
- Administers radiation treatments to patients while strictly adhering to all regulatory standards.
- Monitors equipment performance, documents any malfunctions, and is well-versed in emergency and safety protocols related to all equipment.
- Maintains comprehensive medical records and schedules for patient treatments.
- Identifies and communicates patient concerns and physical issues to the appropriate healthcare team members.
- Accurately records treatment details and related information in the radiation oncology electronic medical record (EMR).
- Effectively communicates treatment instructions and procedures to patients and their families.
- Aids in the clinical training of Radiation Therapy Students.
- Exhibits the ability to quickly understand procedures and protocols that may vary between different locations.
- Provides coverage for radiation therapy services at multiple sites as required.
- Must be capable of managing responsibilities across two locations within the same day when necessary.
Physical Demands
This role necessitates various physical activities including walking, standing, sitting, lifting, reaching, stooping, bending, pushing, and pulling. The ability to lift and support up to 35 pounds is essential for handling patients and medical equipment. Proficiency in English is required, along with intact sensory functions including sight, hearing, smell, and touch. Finger dexterity and critical thinking skills are vital, as is the ability to respond swiftly and make informed decisions in a dynamic environment.
Qualifications
Candidates must be graduates of an AMA accredited Therapeutic Radiology program or an equivalent international institution. Registration with the ARRT is required, or candidates must be eligible for registration and complete it within the first 90 days of employment. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is also required in accordance with policy guidelines.
