Job Overview

The Radiation Therapist is accountable for delivering high-quality treatment to patients undergoing radiation therapy, utilizing ionizing radiation as per the directives provided by the Radiation Oncologist, and under the guidance of the Chief Radiation Therapist. This role may require traveling to various facilities to ensure patient care continuity.

Key Responsibilities

Administers radiation therapy treatments while adhering to all relevant regulatory standards. Monitors and evaluates equipment performance, records any malfunctions, and is well-versed in emergency and safety protocols. Keeps precise medical documentation and manages treatment schedules effectively. Identifies and escalates patient concerns and physical issues to the appropriate healthcare professionals. Records treatment details and other pertinent information in the radiation oncology electronic medical record system. Clearly communicates treatment procedures and instructions to patients and their families. Aids in the clinical training of Radiation Therapy Students. Exhibits the capability to quickly understand and adapt to procedural variations across different locations. Provides coverage for radiation therapy services at multiple sites as necessary. Must be prepared to cover multiple locations within the same day as required.

Physical Demands
This role necessitates various physical activities including walking, standing, sitting, lifting, reaching, stooping, bending, pushing, and pulling. The individual must be capable of lifting and supporting up to 35 pounds when handling patients and medical equipment. Proficiency in English is required, along with intact sensory functions. Critical thinking skills and the ability to focus are essential, as is the capacity to respond swiftly to changes in the clinical environment.

Qualifications and Certifications

Candidates must be graduates of an accredited Therapeutic Radiology program or an equivalent international institution. Registration with the ARRT is required, or candidates must be eligible for registration and complete it within the first 90 days of employment. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is also required in accordance with policy guidelines.
