Job Summary

We are seeking a highly qualified District Engineer for the Structure and Bridge section in our Staunton District. This position provides management, leadership, and direction for assigned District engineering section, overseeing planning, monitoring, and oversight of staff, programs, and budgets for the design, inspection, construction, and maintenance of bridges and structures.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage and lead a team of engineers and technicians in the design, inspection, and maintenance of bridges and structures.
  • Develop and implement plans, policies, and procedures for the District engineering section.
  • Oversee the development and management of budgets and programs for the District engineering section.
  • Ensure compliance with state and federal standards and regulations related to transportation and structures.
  • Collaborate with other departments and agencies to achieve District goals and objectives.
Requirements
  • Experience applying engineering practices and principles as they apply to design, construction, and maintenance of bridges and other structural assets.
  • Degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or related field.
  • Experience managing staff, programs, contract management, and budgets.
  • Experience in structure and bridge inspection procedures.
  • Knowledge of state and federal standards and regulations, policies, and procedures related to transportation and structures.
  • Progressively responsible experience related to project scheduling and project management.
  • Valid Professional Engineer's license.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with contractors, political entities, and the general public.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Broad and extensive experience applying civil engineering and design engineering principles related to roadway, structures, drainage, and environmental.
  • Advanced knowledge of state and federal standards and regulations, policies, and procedures related to transportation and structures.
