Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Structural Bridge Engineer to join our team at the Commonwealth of Virginia Department of Transportation. As a key member of our engineering team, you will be responsible for providing technical advice, guidance, and training on assigned engineering program areas.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide technical expertise and support for bridge and structure design projects
  • Prepare detailed analyses, reports, and recommendations based on engineering determinations
  • Collaborate with internal staff, consultants, and external stakeholders to ensure timely and accurate project completion
  • Effectively manage assigned projects to meet deadlines and quality standards
  • Communicate complex engineering concepts and ideas to both technical and non-technical audiences
Requirements
  • Ability to estimate quantities and costs of materials
  • Proficiency in the use of automated engineering and design software
  • Experience in structural steel design, reinforced and prestressed concrete design, and soil mechanics
  • Ability to produce structural design plans and notes
  • Experience applying specifications, codes, and regulations related to structural design
  • Ability to review and administer consultant design contracts
  • Ability to interpret construction plans and design specifications
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in the design and analysis of bridges and structures
  • Combination of training, experience, or education in Civil Engineering or related field
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) or Professional Engineer's (PE) license
What We Offer

We offer a competitive hourly wage and the opportunity to work on a variety of challenging projects. This is an hourly/wage position, limited to 1500 hours per cycle year with an average of 29 hrs per week. No State/Medical benefits provided.

This position may be eligible for telework opportunities; availability, hours, and duration of telework shall be approved as outlined in the Commonwealth telework policy.
