Position Overview:
The Paint Shop Chief is responsible for overseeing and managing the technical maintenance and installation services provided by a diverse team of skilled, semi-skilled, and unskilled workers. This role involves ensuring the efficient operation of painting services while maintaining high standards of quality and safety.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Organizes and coordinates maintenance tasks and installation services performed by a multi-trade work team.
  • Conducts advanced level work in the painting trade, diagnosing issues and executing repairs and maintenance.
  • Supervises and mentors team members, assigning specific tasks and assessing performance outcomes.
  • Provides training and guidance in painting techniques to other maintenance and trade personnel.
  • Participates in performance evaluations, identifying areas for individual growth and development.
  • Inspects completed work to ensure compliance with industry standards.
  • Estimates time, labor, and materials for projects, ensuring adherence to budget and timelines while monitoring site activities.
  • Prepares work orders and requisitions, ensuring effective use of materials and resources.
  • Generates various reports detailing daily operations and project statuses.
  • Operates standard painting equipment, including sprayers and power tools.
  • May work from ladders and scaffolding as necessary.
  • Ensures safety and operational readiness of work areas and tools, conducting routine inspections and maintenance.
  • Assists in administrative tasks related to scheduling and safety compliance.

Qualifications:
  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • A minimum of six years of progressively responsible experience in the painting trade, including at least two years in a supervisory role.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of painting methods and techniques, as well as OSHA regulations relevant to the trade.
  • Strong understanding of electronics, hydraulics, and mechanics as applied in maintenance work.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations and apply them in practical scenarios.
  • General knowledge of supervisory principles within maintenance trades.
  • Proficient in the use and upkeep of painting tools and equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and schematics, communicate effectively, and lead teams in trade work.
  • Physical capability to handle heavy equipment and work in various environmental conditions.
  • Additional related experience or formal education may substitute for the required qualifications on a year-for-year basis.
