Position Title: Lead Mechanical Automation Engineer

Overview:

The Lead Mechanical Automation Engineer plays a crucial role in executing automation development initiatives within the Advanced Manufacturing Engineering team. This position requires collaboration with fellow automation engineers and operational stakeholders from the initial project phase through to production rollout. The engineer will engage in projects led by the internal team as well as those developed by external partners. This role encompasses multiple projects across various locations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Acts as project lead or team member based on workload, overseeing schedule, budget, and communication with both suppliers and internal clients.
  • Responsible for defining requirements, developing processes, designing mechanical systems, and managing assembly, debugging, and qualification tasks associated with automated manufacturing equipment.
  • In a leadership capacity, coordinates activities of supporting project teams and internal partners, ensuring adherence to established plans and making informed decisions based on business data to adjust schedules and resource allocations as necessary.
  • Communicates project progress and challenges to stakeholders, peers, and leadership, collaborating with internal manufacturing and development teams to address project scope, design, and process issues, ensuring alignment with performance, schedule, and budget goals.
  • Promotes innovation and the integration of new technologies and quality initiatives within projects and the engineering organization.
  • Provides mentorship and guidance to junior staff members.
  • Facilitates training for new employees on equipment usage, system documentation, and departmental procedures.
  • Assists team members with complex, cross-functional projects.
  • Employs creative problem-solving techniques to address complex challenges.
  • Integrates subsystems and components into comprehensive system designs.
  • Engages in special projects as assigned.

Required Skills & Knowledge:

  • Proficient in project and program planning tools and software for managing and tracking project outcomes.
  • Expertise in mechanical design utilizing 3D modeling software, particularly SolidWorks.
  • Familiarity with statistical analysis methods, including gage capability, process capability, and experimental design.
  • Experience in controls systems development is advantageous.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Proven business acumen with successful project management experience, including stakeholder communication and leading cross-functional teams.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution is required.
  • A minimum of 4 years of experience in a related field.

Work Environment:

This position is primarily sedentary, operating in a professional office environment with standard office equipment, and may involve occasional work in a clean room setting. The role requires the ability to lift objects weighing up to 25 pounds. Travel may be necessary for 10% to 20% of the time, depending on assigned projects.
