Job Overview

Role Summary

The Controls Technician plays a vital role in managing all facets of electrical control systems, machinery, and equipment. This position is crucial for maintaining the functionality of the plant's automated cells, which include robotics, control systems, and vision technologies. Collaboration with plant personnel is essential to ensure machinery operates efficiently and to undertake various tasks as necessary.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in addressing the manufacturing facility's electrical, control, and automation requirements.
  • Diagnose and resolve technical challenges related to mechanical assemblies, computer controls, sensors, actuators, and robotic systems to facilitate effective solutions and prevent future issues.
  • Rectify technical problems with machinery, encompassing mechanical, electrical, programming, or sensor-related concerns.
  • Program and troubleshoot PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers).
  • Develop and maintain automated cells and vision systems.
  • Service, repair, and maintain instrumentation, electrical, and process control systems.
  • Contribute to engineering specifications for both new and existing equipment as needed.
  • Integrate automation solutions, including robotics and vision systems, into die casting operations.

Qualifications:

  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and schematics.
  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience, with at least 4 years in an automation-focused role.
  • Proficient in reading and understanding electrical schematics and ladder logic diagrams.
  • Experience in PLC programming and associated hardware.
  • Familiarity with camera inspection systems, particularly Keyence.
  • Experience in programming industrial robots, such as Fanuc and ABB.
  • Knowledge of the general construction of electrical and control cabinets.
  • Proven troubleshooting skills for controls, electrical, and mechanical issues.
  • Experience in die casting is advantageous.
  • Willingness to work off-shift hours.

Education and Experience:

  • Preferred: Associate degree in Electronics Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field.
  • Required: Five years of experience with electro-mechanical automated or robotic equipment in a manufacturing setting, with a strong emphasis on building, repairing, testing, installing, and maintaining such systems.
  • Alternatively, an equivalent combination of education, training, or experience may be considered.
