Overview of Cardinal Health's Pharmacy Operations
At Cardinal Health, our Pharmacy Operations team is dedicated to ensuring the safe and efficient management of pharmacy services across various healthcare settings, including acute care hospitals and specialized practices. We focus on delivering tailored pharmacy solutions that enhance patient care and optimize costs for healthcare providers.
Position Summary
We are seeking a PRN Pharmacist to join our team at a hospital system managed by Cardinal Health. This role involves adjusting and dispensing medications while ensuring compliance with pharmacy operations. The Pharmacist will verify physician orders through our pharmacy information system, make necessary adjustments, and provide essential patient education. Additionally, this position includes supervising Pharmacy Technicians and overseeing compliance with accreditation and inventory management protocols.
Key Responsibilities:
- Accurately interprets and transcribes medical orders into computerized patient medication profiles.
- Compounds and dispenses various pharmaceuticals, including sterile and chemotherapy products.
- Issues controlled substances and maintains required records in accordance with legal standards.
- Monitors drug therapy for potential interactions and appropriateness of prescribed medications.
- Assists with pharmacokinetics consultations and dosing recommendations as per established protocols.
- Reviews culture and susceptibility data to ensure appropriate antibiotic use.
- Reports any suspected adverse drug reactions promptly and accurately.
- Maintains formulary integrity by minimizing nonformulary procurements and promoting effective drug therapy.
- Provides clinical consultation to healthcare practitioners and suggests cost-effective therapeutic alternatives.
- Documents all clinical activities and interventions thoroughly.
- Engages in quality improvement initiatives and medication use reviews, collecting data and maintaining necessary documentation.
- Participates in the development and delivery of training programs for pharmacy and healthcare staff.
- Current pharmacist license in good standing in California or willingness to obtain.
- Preferred experience in inpatient hospital pharmacy.
- Flexibility to work various shifts as needed.
- IV experience preferred or willingness to obtain.
- ACLS/BLS certification preferred or willingness to acquire within a specified timeframe.
- Effective communication skills to interact with healthcare professionals and patients.
- Strong customer service orientation.
- Manual dexterity for handling small objects and performing pharmacy tasks.
- Proficient in using multiple pharmacy information systems.
- Utilizes knowledge of pharmacy concepts and principles to perform a variety of tasks.
- Contributes to projects of moderate complexity.
- Identifies solutions to technical challenges and implements resolutions.
- Exercises judgment within established guidelines.
- Receives general guidance and detailed instructions for new initiatives.
- Work is reviewed for accuracy and sound reasoning.
