Job Summary

Cruise Lines Int'l Association, Inc. is seeking a highly experienced and skilled Vice President, Maritime Policy and Strategy to lead our global maritime policy efforts. This is a key leadership role that requires a deep understanding of international maritime policy, regulatory affairs, and industry best practices.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement global maritime policy strategies that align with CLIA's overall business objectives.
  • Lead industry efforts and representation on global technical and regulatory matters, engaging with senior officials, maritime administration representatives, and other stakeholders at an international level.
  • Conduct research and analysis on emerging maritime policy issues and provide recommendations to senior leadership.
  • Collaborate with CLIA Members and other industry associations on related policy matters.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key regulatory and rule-making bodies, including the International Maritime Organization (IMO) and the International Labour Organization (ILO).
  • Provide strategic guidance and support to CLIA's Maritime Policy Department, including the development of policy briefs, position papers, and other materials.
  • Supervise and direct Director(s) and Technical Advisor(s) within the department.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field, such as international relations, politics, or a related field.
  • 12+ years of job-related experience, including 6+ years of management experience and 5+ years of supervisory experience.
  • Strong knowledge of international maritime policy, regulatory affairs, and industry best practices.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and influencing skills.
  • Ability to build and maintain positive working relationships among a highly distributed and international network of co-workers, association members, international bodies, and trade groups.
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications.
Work Environment
  • This position is based in our DC office as part of a hybrid work environment.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.
Required Travel
  • 30% of the time is spent traveling both domestically and internationally.
Physical Requirements
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
