Job Summary

NV5 is seeking a highly skilled Structure Representative to support our work across California. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for the technical and administrative control of structure elements on locally administered projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Ensure Compliance: Verify that construction contract requirements are met, and shop drawings prepared by contractors are accurate and compliant.
  • Temporary Structures: Perform calculations and acceptance of temporary structures used in bridge and structure construction, including falsework, temporary shoring, working platforms, and temporary supports.
  • Field Dimension Verification: Verify field dimensions, including vertical and horizontal field control, for structures.
  • Submittal Review: Review submittals, including shop drawings, product data, samples, test samples, and QA plans submitted by contractors.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Verify compliance with applicable regulations controlling work, including CAL/OSHA and SWPPP.
  • Construction Progress Inspection: Inspect construction progress to ensure procedures and materials comply with specifications and acceptable workmanship.
  • Reporting and Recommendations: Prepare reports, opinions, and recommendations for review by team leaders prior to submission to clients concerning structures.
  • Conformance and Quality Assurance: Ensure conformance with standards, established engineering practices, applicable codes, and technical adequacy of design and construction.
  • General Office Administration: Perform general office administration tasks, including report reproduction, collation, and delivery.
Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
  • License: California Professional Engineer (PE) License.
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience with heavy civil transportation projects, including bridge and/or structural construction.
  • Caltrans Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience with Caltrans construction methods and practices.
  • Field Engineering Experience: Relevant past work experience performing field engineering tasks of increasing responsibility.
  • Knowledge and Skills: Knowledge of stress analysis, structural mechanics, and strength of materials. Thorough understanding of Cal-OSHA practices and procedures. Knowledge of Caltrans and Greenbook construction practices and the physical characteristics and properties of various bridge construction materials, including concrete.
  • Technical Skills: Experience in the following areas: foundations, pile driving and CIDH piles, concrete prestressing, bridge deck construction, cast-in-place wall construction, falsework, and shoring. Ability to use an automatic level and transit for the purpose of verifying line and grade.
  • Caltrans Field Methods: Thorough understanding of Caltrans field methods, practices, and construction office procedures.

  • Business Development Experience: Experience in business development, including marketing and sales.
  • Local Agency and Rail Experience: Experience working with local agencies and rail projects.
  • Storm Water Pollution and Prevention Plan Implementation: Experience implementing storm water pollution and prevention plans.
  • Multi-Discipline and Agency Coordination: Experience coordinating with multiple disciplines and agencies.
