Role Summary
The Graduate Assistant role encompasses various responsibilities within the university framework.
Graduate Assistants are engaged by the institution to facilitate teaching, partake in research initiatives, or support administrative functions across different departments and units.
Efforts are made to align Graduate Assistants with roles that correspond to their academic focus or that enhance their professional skill set.
Graduate Assistantships are allocated within specific departments and validated by the Graduate School.Additional Information
We are looking for graduate students to take on the role of Instructors for the Pathways initiative at the Middle College.
The "Pathways" program consists of a series of courses offered to high school and university students enrolled in the Middle College, aimed at equipping them with essential strategies for academic and career success.
The curriculum includes subjects such as professional conduct, college preparation, career exploration (with a focus on health and medical fields), personal identity development, and financial literacy.
Subject to health guidelines, the Pathways program may also feature guest lectures, field excursions, and personalized job shadowing/internship opportunities, coordinated by the Middle College Liaison.
Instructors will be tasked with delivering the Pathways curriculum to students enrolled in the Middle College (high school Sophomores/Seniors in the fall; Freshmen/Juniors in the spring).
The course materials are accessible online, and Instructors collaborate with each other and the Middle College Liaison to create and evaluate assignments and class activities.
In addition, Instructors may accompany students on field trips and job shadowing experiences approximately once a week, with transportation provided.Position and Application Details:
- Multiple graduate student positions are available, with the possibility of renewal based on performance and staffing needs.
- 12.5 hours per week, with a compensation rate of $15.00 per hour, no tuition reimbursement included.
- Availability required from early August through mid-May.
Typical Working Hours:
Monday - Friday, approximately 9:20 - 10:50 a.m. (hours may vary slightly based on the class schedule), with weekly meetings until 11:45 a.m. These hours, combined with online course support, total approximately 12.5 hours per week.
- Some positions may offer flexibility to work only 3 to 4 days per week (7-10 hours) and/or conclude by 10:50 a.m. daily.
Minimum Qualifications
To qualify for a Graduate Assistant position, candidates must:
- Maintain good academic standing.
- Be enrolled in graduate-level courses.
- Demonstrate satisfactory progress toward their degree as outlined by their academic program.
- Meet employment eligibility requirements in the U.S.
Additional Minimum Qualifications
A Bachelor's degree is required, along with either 18 graduate credit hours or relevant experience working with youth or in teaching roles.
