Washington, United States The Pew Charitable Trusts Full time

About the Environment Portfolio

For over three decades, Pew has been instrumental in raising awareness among the public and policymakers regarding the causes, impacts, and solutions to some of the globe's most urgent environmental issues. Our environmental initiatives extend across all seven continents, with a dedicated team of over 250 professionals engaged at local, national, and international levels to mitigate the scale and severity of global environmental challenges, including the degradation of significant natural ecosystems that harbor a substantial portion of the world's remaining biodiversity and the deterioration of marine environments.

Pew's global environmental strategy emphasizes science-driven, nonpartisan, and sustainable solutions aimed at safeguarding both the planet and its inhabitants. We collaborate with governments, Indigenous rights holders, intergovernmental bodies, non-governmental organizations, local stakeholders, scientists, and researchers to promote public policies that enable nature and communities to flourish.

Since 1990, Pew has been active in North America, South America, and Australia, striving to protect vital terrestrial ecosystems, including rivers, coastal temperate rainforests, mountain ranges, boreal forests, Australia's Outback, and Chilean Patagonia. Our mission is to ensure these natural systems remain abundant, functional, and resilient, delivering essential ecological services such as clean air, clean water, and food security for local communities, thereby enhancing the welfare of current and future generations. Our approach is grounded in the sciences of conservation, sociology, biology, and economics to advocate for practical and lasting solutions to biodiversity loss.

About Enduring Earth

Enduring Earth represents a groundbreaking collaboration among Pew, The Nature Conservancy, World Wildlife Fund, and ZOMALAB, the family office of Ben and Lucy Ana Walton. This initiative works in partnership with nations and communities to expedite global conservation efforts, addressing the climate and biodiversity crises while fostering community economic development and well-being. Enduring Earth aims to protect and conserve our planet's oceans, lands, and freshwater resources while securing long-term funding for conservation, economic diversification, and community prosperity, all built on a commitment to uphold the rights of individuals and create opportunities for sustainable growth.

The Enduring Earth initiative is centered around the innovative Project Finance for Permanence (PFP) conservation finance model. A PFP is a financial framework that unites governments, Indigenous peoples, local communities, funders, and other stakeholders to ensure long-term conservation, sustained funding, and community benefits. This collaborative approach ensures that protected areas remain safeguarded through designs that are locally-led, nationally supported, sustainably funded, and highly accountable.

The partnership aims to finalize 20 PFPs by 2030, with Pew currently co-leading five PFPs and seeking a Project Manager to support the PFP portfolio and provide direct assistance to these projects.

The officer will support Pew's PFP project management, strategy, design, and execution. Collaborating with the Enduring Earth team, the officer will ensure that PFPs achieve their planning milestones and targets, are developed inclusively and professionally, and adhere to Pew and Enduring Earth standards. The officer will provide direct deal support, initially focusing on developing a sustainable finance mechanism in the Eastern Tropical Pacific (ETP).
