Job Summary

The City of Johnson City, Tennessee is seeking a highly skilled Occupational Health and Safety Coordinator to join our Risk Management Department. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for developing and implementing occupational health and safety plans, inspection programs, and safety training programs to ensure a safe and healthy working environment for employees.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and Implement Safety Plans: Create and implement occupational health and safety plans, inspection programs, and safety training programs to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Conduct Inspections and Investigations: Conduct regular inspections of city work sites to detect unsafe or unhealthy working conditions and investigate accidents to determine causes and corrective actions.
  • Provide Training and Education: Develop and conduct safety training programs for employees, including training on OSHA and TOSHA regulations, and maintain records of training provided.
  • Collaborate with Departments: Work closely with department heads and safety committees to ensure that safety policies and procedures are incorporated into city operational policies and followed.
  • Maintain Records and Reports: Complete and maintain appropriate TOSHA reports, and develop and maintain up-to-date tracking/reporting systems for the recording of safety infractions and reporting remedial actions taken.
  • Provide Technical Assistance: Provide technical assistance to staff regarding occupational health and safety issues, and assist department heads and Director of Risk Management in enforcing safety policies and procedures.
Requirements
  • Education: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a degree in occupational health and safety, risk management, or related field.
  • Experience: Considerable experience in the occupational health and safety field, with OSHA Authorized General Industry Trainer and OSHA Authorized Construction Trainer certifications desirable.
  • Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel, with strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and the ability to prioritize and balance multiple tasks.
