Position Overview

The Radiation Therapy Specialist plays a crucial role within the Department of Radiation Oncology, contributing to the comprehensive care of patients undergoing treatment.

The primary responsibility of the Radiation Therapy Specialist is to execute radiation therapy and imaging techniques, utilizing X-rays and radioactive materials for patient simulation and treatment of various malignancies and pain management.

This role ensures the precise administration of prescribed radiation therapy plans, maintaining the highest standards of patient care within the Department of Radiation Oncology.

Additionally, the Radiation Therapy Specialist engages in quality assurance activities, educational initiatives, and mentorship for radiation therapy students, as directed by the Radiation Therapy Manager.

Key Responsibilities

The Radiation Therapy Specialist is involved in:

  • Conducting radiation therapy and imaging procedures, assisting in treatment planning while adhering to established protocols set by the Radiation Oncologist.
  • Providing patient monitoring and education, addressing any unusual reactions or events, and ensuring compliance with radiation safety regulations for both patients and staff.
  • Facilitating student education and supervision, contributing to the training and development of future professionals in the field.
  • Participating in the educational and research objectives of the Medical Center through active involvement in clinical education and projects.
Minimum Qualifications

To qualify for this position, candidates must possess:

  • A 2-Year College Degree or equivalent education/experience.
  • Registration with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists in Radiation Therapy Technology.
  • Licensure by the State of Ohio through the Ohio Department of Health in Radiation Therapy.
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in Radiation Therapy.

  • Demonstrate proficiency in the technical, interpersonal, and cognitive skills necessary for effective job performance.
  • Maintain registration and licensure through the relevant professional bodies.
